Since the announcement of the relaunch for the MMORPG for League of Legends, there has now been the first official update from Riot CEO Marc Merill regarding the ambitious project.
What does the chief developer reveal? Marc Merrill – co-founder, Chief Product Officer, and Co-Chairman at Riot Games – provided the first update on the LoL MMORPG at the League of Legends Worlds Finals 2024 since the announcement of the relaunch of the project in March 2024.
When asked about the MMO by moderator Caedrel, Merrill explained (via YouTube): “We are working hard on it. This is the project where I am currently putting most of my time. I believe the team has found a great direction now and has been able to build a lot of momentum. We are very aware of the high expectations placed on us, and we are doing everything we can not to disappoint.”
Greg “Ghostcrawler” Street is no longer in charge of the LoL MMO and is now working on the MMORPG “Ghost” with his own studio.

How does the community react to the update? Due to the relaunch and the famously long development times of MMORPGs, various players are looking at a possible release date with a wink. Others are simply glad that the project has not been put on hold after the recent layoffs.

What else is known about the LoL MMORPG? Due to the relaunch, it remains unclear what of all the information that Ghostcrawler revealed about the MMORPG project over the years is still valid. At the relaunch, the responsible parties stated that they wanted to clearly differentiate from current representatives of the genre.
