Revelation Online offers not only special PvP arenas but also open PvP, where players can freely battle each other as they please. However, those who overindulge in “Ganking” will face severe penalties.
Most online role-playing games have special arenas for PvP battles. However, usually, peace prevails among players in the open world. Some games, like the upcoming Revelation Online, employ open PvP. This way, players can attack and slay each other at any time.
Penalties for Gankers
However, not all players are fair game. Only when level 40 is reached can you be attacked by other players. This also means that you could become a victim of “Ganking“. In MMO jargon, Ganking refers to the arbitrary slaughter of – often weaker – other players. Since this behavior is not enjoyable for most victims, such actions are sanctioned in Revelation Online.
If a player kills another player who does not fight back, the “killer” receives a “killer mark.” As long as one carries this mark, they lose an equipment item upon each death in PvP. The mark can only be removed through specific quests or items.
Therefore, Ganking must be worthwhile to someone. Conversely, those who place less value on open PvP can also have fun in special arenas, where modes like 10vs10, 20vs20, and 30vs30 are available. Additionally, there is an option to ensure that you do not accidentally attack your party members.
Jürgen says: I am not a fan of open PvP, as I believe it mainly results in annoying Ganking. As a PvE fan, I actually want little to no PvP and find nothing more annoying than being slaughtered by my fellow players after a hard fight or while talking to NPCs.
