Maple Story 2 (October 10, 2018 – May 2020)
Genre: MMORPG | Developer: Nexon | Platforms: PC | Payment Model: Free2Play
What kind of game was it? The successor to the well-known MapleStory aimed to impress with its cute 3D graphics, adventures, and plenty of mini-games. You could accept quests, fight monsters, and improve your hero. Additionally, it was also possible to race against other players or build and furnish a house.
The games enjoyed a lot of freedom, for example in costume design.
What did it fail at? MapleStory 2 was plagued by cheaters and gold sellers. These ruined the fun for others, and the developers simply couldn’t get a grip on the problem.
Another complaint was the lack of content. The game forced you to rush into endgame first to participate in many activities, but ultimately it offered too little and repetitive content. Many veterans even returned to MapleStory 1.
As more and more players turned their backs on the MMORPG, the servers were shut down.
What are the best memories? Many players particularly enjoyed the colorful graphics and the 3D world of MapleStory 2. After all, the alternative, MapleStory 1, is only playable in 2D.
Are there alternatives or successors? If you still want to engage with MapleStory, you should go back to the predecessor. If you’re looking for a similarly colorful and grindy game, you can find a possible alternative in our list of the best anime MMORPGs.
