Total War Arena (September 1, 2017 – February 22, 2019)
What is Total War Arena? Total War Arena is an online strategy game. You command three units of ancient troops in real time while your 9 teammates lead similar forces into battle. To succeed, you must coordinate well with the team. After the battle, you can upgrade your units and unlock better troops. Romans, Greeks, Barbarians, and Carthaginians are available for selection.
Why it failed: Total War Arena faced difficulties because the game principle of real-time online strategy did not resonate well with many Total War fans. They preferred to be the sole commander and not share command with 9 other generals.
Others turned their backs on the game after a decision by the publisher Wargaming. They removed the game from Steam and only offered it via their own launcher. However, many fans remained on Steam and lost sight of the game.
How old will the game be? Total War Arena is technically still not completely dead, as the servers are supposed to run until February 22, 2019. Nonetheless, by that time, the game will only be 18 months old since it launched in open beta on September 1, 2017, which it never left.
This is what is positively remembered: Total War Arena has a great game concept that could be a lot of fun. When a battle goes well, epic moments occur. With so many commanders, there is always someone who makes tactical mistakes or seizes opportunities brilliantly. Then the tide of battle can quickly turn, leading to an epic victory.
On the next page, there is a game that is at least dead in one form.
