Echo of Soul (September 11, 2013 – May 23, 2018)
What was Echo of Soul? Echo of Soul is an Asian fantasy MMORPG. You fight monsters and collect their souls to enhance yourself. The game offered PvP and PvE content as well as a large guild vs. guild PvP system.
Why it failed: First of all, it should be mentioned that Echo of Soul is still alive. What has died, however, is the Steam version. This was essentially Echo of Soul Classic. The game did not receive good ratings on Steam and was seen as a repetitive Asian grinder without major highlights.
However, outside of Steam, there was the so-called “Phoenix version,” which had a bit more pep. Since the fans of the game preferred this version, hardly anyone played the outdated Steam version anymore. Therefore, it was a natural step for the publisher to take the Steam version offline.
How long did the game last? Echo of Soul Classic was shut down on May 23, 2018. By that time, it was almost five years old.
This is what remains positively in memory: Echo of Soul may not have brought anything new to the genre, but it focused entirely on several tried-and-true MMO systems, combined them all in one game, and tried to polish what worked in the genre. This concept was at least temporarily well received.
