Red Dead Redemption 2 has been available on Steam since December 5, 2019. Thanks to a historic discount, more players than ever are celebrating the Rockstar game.
What action lures the players in? Until February 6, 2025, players can secure the biggest discount on Red Dead Redemption 2 on Steam that has ever existed:
- For just 14.99 euros, you can get the standard version of the game. That’s a whopping 75% discount on Steam.
- If you spend 3 euros more, you will receive the Ultimate Edition with an 80% discount. This comes with additional story missions and exclusive content for the online mode.
- If you still need to catch up on the first part, the bundle could be a good deal. Both titles are available for 54.98 euros. However, that’s “only” a 50% discount.
This makes the game cheaper than ever. This is also reflected in the player numbers: Since October 2024, the number has more than doubled. Before the discount campaign, in December 2024, there were about 56,278 players who played Red Dead Redemption 2 in the last 24 hours.
Currently, the Western title has 86,717 players who have checked in within a day (via SteamDB). This is even more players than at the release of the title. And there may be a good reason for this, which is not just due to the discount.

Red Dead Redemption 2 was delayed on Steam
Why are there more than at release? In December 2019, there were 55,271 players who played Red Dead Redemption 2 on a single day. This number has been surpassed several times since November 2022, presumably whenever there were special discount campaigns or new updates.
At the game’s release, not that many fans got the game because it arrived on Steam late. The Steam Game of the Year 2020 was released back in October 2018 for PS4 and Xbox One.
Even on PC, the Steam platform had a disadvantage. Competitor Epic Games was able to acquire the title a month earlier. As a result, many players had already played Red Dead Redemption 2 before it was released on Steam.
If Red Dead Redemption 2 had released on all platforms simultaneously, the player numbers would likely have been significantly higher. Therefore, it is not surprising that the player record was broken due to the historic discount. Because now, people are being attracted who previously found the title too expensive.
Is it worth it? If you are considering buying Red Dead Redemption 2, the reviews on Steam could provide you with a good orientation. 91% of 615,792 players rated the title positively, recently it was even 93%.
