In the code of Red Dead Redemption 2, data miners have now found further clues regarding the region of Mexico. We are showing you the images and speculations here.
What was found? A large post has appeared in the GTA-Forums. The user VideoTech UK speaks of a huge Mexico discovery he encountered during data mining. He uploaded 13 screenshots showing buildings, walls, vehicles, textures, and more.
We include the findings here in the gallery. According to the data miner, there are currently no higher-resolution images or HQ models available.
The data miner says: He searched through version 1.00 of the PS4 game looking for hidden models related to Mexico. In the process, he found the displayed 3D images.
Why is Mexico interesting? This region has often been a topic in the community, and many players desire an addon set in the region of Mexico. In the original Red Dead Redemption, the location was an exciting setting.
Shortly after the release of Red Dead Redemption 2, players breached the invisible wall to Mexico. However, they did not find all the buildings that the leak now reveals.
Even data for mini-map found
What else was found? Another data miner, WildBrick142, found further clues about a Mexico region in Red Dead Redemption 2. There, one can partially see the outer outlines of locations that are referred to in the data as “Nuevo Paraiso”.
We embed the tweet with the findings here:
These images should then be displayed to players on the mini-map when they visit the locations.
In the code, there are even references to bounties that lead to Mexico.
Little hope for Mexico DLC among players
How likely is an addon? At this point, it’s hard to say whether Rockstar is currently working on a Mexico DLC or if the found data is merely remnants of a project that didn’t make it into the final game.
An addon for the single player seems hard to imagine, as one can see from the example of GTA 5 that Rockstar Games is now focusing on online content after a game is released.
Thus, Mexico as a DLC for Red Dead Online is possible. However, these data mining findings are still a long way from being proof of such a content drop for RDO.
This is what players say: The reactions to the new findings are rather restrained. Especially because these images are of such low quality, they believe that Mexico will not be released anytime soon. Rather, they assume that Mexico was developed at one point but then abandoned.
One player writes in the GTAForums that he believes that Mexico and further content for New Austin were once planned as additions during development but then the focus shifted to the northern regions due to time constraints. This, in his opinion, would also explain why New Austin is visually beautiful but lacks special features.
Others also suspect that this might be “cut content.” That is, content that was once planned but then canceled.
The hopes for a DLC currently seem low among players.
For the online mode, the focus now shifts back to alcohol:
