Even though Red Dead Redemption 2 was released nearly 3 years ago in October 2018, it still ranks among the most graphically advanced games. A video by Digital Dreams now shows what can still be extracted from the graphics.
What does the video show? In the gameplay snippet from Digital Dreams, one can see the enhanced graphics of Red Dead Redemption 2. The resolution is in 8K, and Ray Tracing is also used. This is made possible by the graphics mod Beyond all Limits Raytracing Reshade, which can be found on Nexusmods without Ray Tracing (via nexusmods.com).
The Ray Tracing presets are made available by the YouTuber through his Discord server (via Discord.com). RDR2 itself runs on Ultra settings and thus at the highest settings.
For a game from 2018, Red Dead Redemption 2 still looks damn good. Not without reason, it counts among the most popular games in which photos are taken.
The graphics of RDR2 were already considered one of the most realistic and natural ever. It even went so far as to that a TV station accidentally presented screenshots from RDR 2 as nature photos.
With the new technical possibilities, landscapes, weather, and lighting effects appear even more realistic than they already were:
Looks fantastic, but needs corresponding graphics power
What you need for this graphic quality: The biggest factor is the graphics card. Because with the Nvidia RTX 3090, the currently strongest card on the market is used.
This is the flagship of Nvidia’s Ampere series and the most expensive graphics card on the market. It costs at least around 1,500 euros, but is considered the first 8K graphics card on the market. However, due to the current situation around Corona, you have to expect a significantly higher price if you can even get one.
Even the much cheaper, yet still sought-after graphics cards like RTX 3080 and RX 6700 XT could even get more expensive, but are anyway almost everywhere sold out. Most newer graphics cards can only be found at inflated prices from private sellers.
In general, the prices for graphics cards have skyrocketed due to the high demand, while the deliveries have been heavily impacted by the Corona crisis.
Additionally, there is the boom in cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin. Here, the demand for computing power from Bitcoin miners, for example, leads to even higher demand for graphics cards.
Therefore, the manufacturer themselves are already feeling compelled to act: Nvidia makes mining significantly harder so you can soon buy a graphics card. Currently, however, there is still no end to the situation in sight.
