The recently unlocked microtransactions for Red Dead Online are dividing the community. But what is currently available for real money?
What is it about? Rockstar has recently introduced microtransactions for Red Dead Online, where the premium currency gold bars can also be purchased with real money. Gold bars could previously only be earned through significant grinding in the game itself.
The community is divided over the microtransactions: one camp is outraged by the prices while the others find it perfectly acceptable to either reach into their wallets for in-game items or “work hard” for them.
However, both groups are concerned that prices could skyrocket, as has already happened with GTA Online.
There is nothing worthwhile to buy
What are microtransactions for? According to Forbes, the introduction of microtransactions currently seems absurd, as there is nothing worthwhile in RDO that can be purchased with real money.
Thus, the MTX would really only be used to shorten the grind for their favorite items, which would simultaneously undermine the purpose of the game.
Players prefer to save for items that are yet to come
How do players spend their money? This seems to be the current opinion of Red Dead Online players as well.
Some players used the gold that Rockstar distributed to beta players to treat themselves to their favorite weapons or outfits.
With the gold, players can buy weapons, cosmetic items, or horses, or bypass level restrictions for some items.
A large part of the community, however, seems to be saving the gold, hoping for more vehicles or their own houses. According to a leak, wagons, carriages, and houses have already been found in the game data.
Meanwhile, a story about a poor guy is making the rounds in the subreddit for Red Dead Redemption 2: A player spent 100 gold bars on a fast travel signpost for his camp.
After the purchase, however, he realized that he still had to spend in-game dollars for fast travel, even from his camp.
