When it comes to “quickscoping,” you use the sniper rifles from Call of Duty: Vanguard in a very aggressive way – quickly aim, secure the kill, next enemy. If you want to try this powerful playstyle, here are the most important tips – from the weapon to the tactics.
What is quickscoping? With this technique, you use your sniper rifle in Call of Duty: Vanguard for one-shot kills at all distances. You rely fully on the mobility of your sniper rifle and aim for just a fraction of a second to sweep your opponents off the map.
Why is it so powerful? One-shot kills have a “theoretical” time-to-kill of 0 milliseconds, and if you manage to use this strength in nearly every game situation, you are already a very strong player.
It takes a lot of practice and patience. But once you get the hang of it and start enjoying the playstyle, not much can stop you. If you want to see some quickscope gameplay from a strong player, we have included a video from the English YouTuber “Spratt” here:
Vanguard: Quickscoping – Correct Weapon & Setup
Which weapon should I choose? Currently, there are 3 sniper rifles in CoD: Vanguard and the well-known Kar 98k proves to be the best option for quickscoping:
- Three-Line Rifle – Slower, but quicker centering
- Type 99 – Faster, but less damage
- Kar98k – Good balance of stats
The Three-Line Rifle is more suited for snipers who play stationary. The Type 99 has exciting movement, but a very small one-shot range. The Kar provides you with a good mix of the most important features.
What setup should I use? Pay special attention to bonuses for your “ADS speed” and movement.
You can reduce the “time to aim” with the standard scope of the Kar to 505 milliseconds, but you shouldn’t completely push that value to the limit. Because with the “Krausnick 560mm LWS03K” barrel, you have a slightly larger one-shot range – though this is not noticeable in the game.
With this setup, you don’t necessarily need headshots – even hits to the chest or shoulders will shred your opponents.
Vanguard: Quickscope Class Kar98k
- Muzzle: Scout Silencer
- Barrel: Krausnick 560mm LWS03K
- Scope: –
- Stock: Short Stock
- Underbarrel: SMLE Pistol Grip
- Ammunition: –
- Ammunition Type: Extended
- Grip: Fabric Grip
- Perk: –
- Kit: –
For the perk and kit, you can decide based on your preferences. Here are a few strong alternatives:
- Quickscope Perk
- Agility – For better movement
- Concealed – Less scope glint
- Insanity – Health after a kill
- Quickscope Kits
- Paratrooper – Use equipment faster
- Fully Loaded – Max starting ammunition
If you want to use the weapon at short and medium distances, you can also use one of the “Iron Sight” variants as a scope. This saves you considerable aiming time, but you won’t have a large scope anymore.
Loadout – Know Your Flanks and Spawns
Which perks are suitable? Especially during your first trials as a quickscoper, you should proceed cautiously – more about this in the section “Tactics for Quickscoping.” Perks that make you faster or less detectable will help you. We recommend:
- Ghost – Not detectable by enemy UAVs
- Forward Intel – You see enemy spawns on the mini-map
- Lightweight – Higher movement speed in many situations
If you are playing “Ghost,” you should always use a silencer. Otherwise, the effect will quickly be lost. With “Forward Intel,” enemy spawns are briefly shown. This is very helpful when operating behind enemy lines. “Lightweight” also increases your overall movement speed.
Which secondary weapon is suitable? Here you can choose based on your preferences. The “Ratt” is a strong choice as a secondary weapon, as you get the highest fire rate among single-fire pistols.
Which equipment is suitable? Here too, you can choose based on your interests. The Gammon Bomb deals relatively little damage but explodes quickly and can finish off wounded enemies in no time. The stun grenade fits in with it, as it can make enemies nearly completely incapacitated for a short time.
Drag-Scoping or Center-Scoping as Techniques
What aiming techniques are there in quickscoping? When you start quickscoping, you should choose one of the two techniques:
- Drag-Scoping
- Center-Scoping
With more experience, you should internalize both techniques. But initially, focus on one of the two scoping variants.
How does Center-Scoping work? When center-scoping, you try to directly aim your crosshair at your opponent from the very start, aiming and firing the lethal shot. You don’t need to consider much and can just run around and shoot visible enemies.
However, this technique is prone to errors. If the shot doesn’t hit, you are at a disadvantage in close and medium-range combat. Additionally, jerking reduces your accuracy when you take hits while scoping.
Center-scoping is the “pure” form of quickscoping – crosshair on the opponent, scope in, shoot. However, the higher the distance, the harder it becomes to center-scope.
How does Drag-Scoping work? This technique is particularly interesting for controller players. With a controller, you can benefit from Vanguard’s aim assist.
Instead of relying on perfectly aiming at the opponent immediately, you aim next to the enemy and drag your crosshair over the opponent. At the right moment, you then pull the trigger.

This shifts your focus from precise aiming to your reaction speed with the trigger. It requires some practice, but once you have it down, you may be a little slower than the center-scopers, but your hit rate will increase.
The aim assist with the controller also helps you hit the right point. If you get too close to an opponent with your scope, your crosshair will “slow down” for a moment. You “feel” this trigger after a while and pull the trigger without needing to focus on the timing.
What about No-Scoping? This refers to hits and kills that you achieve from the hip fire of your sniper. You completely skip the aiming phase and shoot at an opponent in your crosshair. However, this technique is not very reliable, though it is very satisfying when a hit lands. In general, it’s not recommended.
Flank and Take the Long Path as a Quickscoper
How should I proceed when quickscoping? Always be aware of where your strengths lie with quickscope loadouts and when you are at a disadvantage:
- Strength: You can take down enemies with one shot
- Weakness: You are generally slower than other weapon classes
You need to catch your opponents from the side, as you are often at a disadvantage in direct duels. The time to aim with the sniper rifles from Vanguard is relatively high. The time it takes you to aim is enough for most other weapons to aim and fire. So you always need to look ahead and cannot be surprised.
At the beginning, try to play more in the second row of a frontline. Once your hits are more secure, then play flanks. Try to take the long way with quickscope loadouts and flank your enemies. This is especially powerful in objective-based modes like “Control” or “Domination.”
Keep a close eye on enemy movements and try to predict their paths. The perk “Forward Intel” is extremely powerful for this, as you can observe enemy spawns on the map.
This works better the more you flank on a map. If you catch several opponents from the side without being detected, you’ll hit the jackpot. If you approach it correctly and land your shots, you will have taken them out before the enemies even realize what is going on.
Stay Calm and Get Better
Sniping and especially quickscoping are among the king disciplines of weapon mastery in Call of Duty. Here it’s practice, practice, practice before consistent success arrives. But it can be worth it.
Whether you are a beginner or an advanced player – calmness and precision are the most important skills if you want to be a good quickscoper. Don’t let defeats get you down and learn from your losses. Practice the techniques, and once you land those first really great hits, you won’t want to put the sniper down again.
Until then, it’s often a long road, but one that is worth it. If you are looking for more tips for your gameplay, check out our guide collection: Call of Duty: Vanguard Guides – All Tips, Tricks, and Info for Beginners
