In Pokémon GO, Season 2 of the PvP League has now started. However, there are quite a few adjustments. New moves and cups are shaking up the meta significantly.
When does Season 2 start? The 2nd season of the PvP League starts on May 1 at 10:00 PM German time. It will run until July 6, ending again at 10:00 PM German time. This is, however, a preliminary plan and might change.
With the start of the season, there are several adjustments to the game system. We will give you an overview of what’s new in the league.
What changes with Season 2 in the PvP League
What will be new: In general, it will be a bit harder to advance from Rank 4 to the following ranks. You will need more wins than before.
Additionally, you will receive the Pokémon as a base reward after your 3rd win. Previously, this was only possible after the 4th win. In the premium reward, you will receive the Pokémon after your first win.
Furthermore, the rewards are changing in general. The following Pokémon can be obtained at the following ranks with a bit of luck:
- Metagross guaranteed at Rank 1
- Flunschlik at Rank 4
- Geronimatz at Rank 8
- Zurrokex at Rank 9
- Wrestler-Pikachu guaranteed at Rank 10
There will also be a new avatar pose at Rank 10, and from Rank 7, you will receive a guaranteed top Fast TM at the season’s end.
This cup is new: In Season 2, you will also be able to select the Premier Cup. This operates with no CP limits, but you may not bring any legendary or mythical Pokémon.
This will be particularly interesting for trainers who otherwise enjoy battling with Dialga, Giratina, or other meta-relevant legendary Pokémon.
What remains the same? Due to the coronavirus, you currently do not have to walk any kilometers to be able to battle. This will also remain the case in Season 2.
Additionally, there will still be avatar outfits that match the Wrestler-Pikachu at Rank 7, and at Rank 10, there will still be avatar outfits themed around Troy Trumm, a champ from the Pokémon League.
When do the respective leagues run? These will run a bit longer than in Season 1. Here’s the exact schedule:
- Super League: May 1 to May 25 at 10:00 PM German time each day
- Hyper League: May 25 to June 15 at 10:00 PM German time each day
- Master League and Premier Cup: June 15 to June 29 at 10:00 PM German time each day
- All leagues and the Premier Cup: June 29 to July 6 at 10:00 PM German time each day
This is what the changes mean: With these adjustments, the PvP League will be significantly altered again. Especially the Premier Cup is interesting for players who have not found much use for legendary Pokémon.
But the new level system also sounds exciting. It remains to be seen how much more will be required to rank up.
Attack Changes in Pokémon GO
These moves will be changed: 3 moves have undergone changes in the PvP League. However, they only apply to the league and not to raids or gym battles:
- Drill Run will charge faster
- Moonblast will charge faster, lower the user’s defense, and deal less damage
- Thunder Shock will charge faster, deal more damage, and lower the user’s defense
This Pokémon gets a new move: Palkia can now learn Aqua Tail. This water-type move charges quickly and is a significant boost for Palkia. You can quickly draw out the opponent’s shields.
It will be interesting to see how the tier list of the best PvP Pokémon will shift due to these changes.
