The next map of PUBG (PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds) has a winter theme. In size, you choose a new model. The winter map will be smaller than “Erangel.”
During E3 2018, the new PUBG map was presented in a tiny trailer. Fans couldn’t see much: a few feet walking through the snow, footprints, and snowflakes. Now there are details about the winter map. It will not be as large as Erangel or Miramar, but also not as small as Sanhok.
New map size for winter map in PUBG
When is the new winter map coming? The new map is set to be released this winter, fitting the theme. PCGamer spoke with Brendan “PlayerUnknown” Greene at E3 and revealed some details.
Moderate – Not big, not small. Many fans have already inquired about the size of the map. After all, Erangel and Miramar are quite large at 8×8 kilometers. The new Sanhok map measures only 4×4 kilometers. Greene says the winter map will fall somewhere in between.
Why not 8×8 kilometers? “We think that 8×8 kilometers are good. But it takes an excessive amount of time to finish such large maps.” However, there are no exact numbers on how big the winter map will ultimately be. Whether it will be an exact middle ground of 6×6 kilometers remains unclear.
PUBG boss wants footprints on the map
Fans celebrated the little teaser of the winter map because footprints were visible there. This would be a tactical feature in matches, as players could track their opponents who might be hiding nearby.
Will footprints come to PUBG? So will the new map really have footprints as a feature, or was that just a teaser to make the new map sound more appetizing? Greene says, “Of course, we would like players to leave footprints in the snow. But we can’t promise that just yet.” He adds that the development of the map is still in the early stages.
