Meanwhile, the first ones are already playing on their new PlayStation 5. However, some are experiencing issues with their new console.
On November 12, 2020, the PlayStation 5 launched in the USA and other countries, and some people are already playing on their next-gen console. In Germany, we still have to wait a week. Here at least there are some tests of the PS5.
But not everything is running smoothly: In several PS5 subreddits, owners complain about various issues with their new console. In the reddit thread, the following problems are mentioned:
- The console does not boot after the first start
- There are issues with the console’s database, referred to as “corrupted database”.
- And occasionally there are sound problems and glitches
Are there any solutions yet? So far, there are no official solutions for the issues, but the most commonly mentioned problem is the corrupted database of the console.
“I am surprised to see how widespread some of these ‘bricking/crashing’ problems are. Hopefully not too often,” wonders one user.
Some suspect that the software issues arise because many are trying to install their beloved PS4 games on the new console to benefit from the new performance:
Take it easy in the first week. Maybe one shouldn’t immediately try to copy data from the PS4 or test a bunch of PS4 games… I don’t know… it seems to need a new patch.

For others, updating the TV’s firmware has helped.
This tip is given to PS5 owners: Currently, one should not use an external hard drive with the PS5 and also not use the console’s rest mode. This is where most of the mentioned problems originate.
PS5 Some fans are starting to worry
These are the reactions of the users: Besides those affected, there are also numerous gamers who are still waiting for their console and are starting to worry. Because they too could be among those who receive a defective PS5. User Veneim writes:
Yes, this thread has dampened my expectations… From worrying about whether my credit card [when ordering] goes through, to whether I will receive it on launch day, to whether it will even work when I get it.

Some even suggest that people should share their positive experiences to give hope to the waiting buyers, as that is what they need most right now:
[…] The only comfort I have at the moment is that most of the influencers and gaming websites I follow seem to have little to no issues. At least not to the extent that has been described here.

Are only regular users affected? A YouTuber has also reported that his PS5 is broken. The YouTuber Jeremy Penter tweeted that his console is 100% dead. He also had an external hard drive connected, later issues with the database occurred. A problem that some are currently reporting.
Others are optimistic: Some say: People, don’t worry, no console launch has gone smoothly so far, and there have always been issues.
Technical Issues: Number of Affected Users is Unclear
While some users have reported problems, and the “Technical Issues & Help Megathread” on Reddit now has over 1000 comments, not everyone there has issues. Many are also helping those affected with advice and assistance.
At least it seems that besides the technical issues, there is also positive news. Because it currently looks like there could be more PS5 consoles before Christmas – at least if we believe the words of Sony’s chief.
