This is what Sony said about the release: Lempel stated in the interview that the PS5 release will definitely take place in 2020. He said:
We will launch this year – that will happen – and from my side, we will absolutely ensure that we bring all the magic and excitement of launches that we have had in the past.
We are still determined to do that. It is more challenging than ever, but our players expect a lot from us.

He did not specify an exact date, but he made it clear that Sony firmly anticipates that the PlayStation 5 will be released on time by the end of the year.
Sony on PS5 and Advertising: COVID as a New Challenge
What else did Sony talk about? In the interview, he also mentioned the new PS5 advertisement that Sony had released. Lempel mentioned that this commercial is also a way to connect with interested parties. If there was no COVID pandemic, people would have been able to touch the hardware at an event like Gamescom:
“If the world were a normal place, we would be out there with demo stations at various events, with the opportunity for consumers to touch and interact with the product and truly understand what we are talking about.
The challenge early on was: How do we try to express this with a spot, and how do we simultaneously create a spot given the current restrictions due to the global pandemic? So that was a challenge for us on all fronts.
