The PS5 release is on November 19, 2020. Today, the first reviews of the PlayStation 5 have already gone online. We present to you what the testers think about Sony’s console.
What is it about? After the first unboxing videos of the PS5 went online on October 27, 2020, the first reviews of the PlayStation 5 are now allowed to be published. There was a previous embargo on them, which has now been lifted.
First journalists have now published their reviews of the PlayStation 5. We show you how the world thinks about the new PS5.
GamePro.de: The biggest advantage lies in its speed
Hannes Rossow from GamePro was allowed to test Sony’s new console and reports about the new device in his review.
Performance: The PS5 offers immense performance. This is also due to the built-in SSD hard drive. Both the operating system and the software load extremely quickly, and long loading times are a thing of the past. Rossow writes in his overview: “The new console generation’s strength is probably most perceptible in its speed – and the PS5 is no exception.”

Controller: The new DualSense controller of the PS5 has been significantly improved compared to the DualShock 4. The touchpad is much more precise, the battery life is notably longer, and it feels great in hand. The DualSense is the real standout of the next-gen. You can read the full review of the DualSense directly at GamePro.
Games: So far, primarily Astro’s Playroom has been tested, which is pre-installed on every PlayStation 5. Besides that, there are hardly any next-gen games for the PS5 as most will not be released until mid-November.
These, the GamePro explains, will be tested as soon as they arrive. This includes titles like Godfall and the “Demon’s Souls” remake.
Conclusion from GamePro: Hannes Rossow finds many detailed improvements in the new console. It feels like taking off heavy and uncomfortable clothing and putting on light clothing. This has a very special effect for him:
Everything is more pleasant, everything is faster, and there is constantly this feeling of relief. Presumably, these “Quality of Life” improvements will make up the core aspect of the next-gen experience for many players.

GameStar.de: Strong console, but without major titles as an argument
In the review from GameStar, Nils Raettig writes that the PlayStation 5 is definitely a fast console with cutting-edge technology.
Performance: The PS5 offers strong performance, even for older optimized titles like DOOM. However, some new games like Dirt 5 suffer from sporadic screen tearing, which does not look appealing.

Games: Nils Raettig explains that, at launch, the PlayStation 5 is particularly missing the notable titles that would justify purchasing the new console. However, this is not a problem of the PS5, because “fairly, it must be said that the Xbox Series X […] faces similar problems at launch.”
Focus: The real star is the DualSense controller
Focus.de writes in its review of the PS5 that it offers more performance than any PlayStation before. There are no loading times mentioned, and new games like Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales look stunning. But the real star is the new DualSense controller, which has been thoroughly improved and offers great, accomplished haptics.
However, testers are annoyed about the sound system: Because 3D sound like Dolby Atmos is not supported, as Sony relies on its own 3D audio system.
PCGames: A great piece of hardware
PCGames praises in its review that Sony has consistently improved its new console in every aspect: The console is “damn fast, you navigate specifically through the menus, there are hardly any loading times, and the DualSense controller actually adds even more immersion.”
For other things, like noise levels, however, it remains to be seen whether the console will remain that quiet in the long term.
