From the start of the pre-orders for the PlayStation 5, things have been chaotic. And the chaos seems not to be fully resolved yet. Due to technical errors with some shipping retailers, some now have to worry about their PS5, which they thought was already secured.
What is behind the chaos? Actually, Sony announced that the pre-orders for the PS5 would be announced in advance.
Unfortunately, that was not the case. After the price and release date of the PS5 were revealed, the date for pre-orders was hastily announced via Twitter – and it was extremely short notice. It was set to start the very next day.
However, the pre-orders started too early, practically in the middle of the night, and were also accompanied by technical issues on the retailers’ websites. In short: The pre-order was a complete disaster, the new Sony consoles were sold out in just a few hours. Not everyone interested was able to secure a PS5. Some hadn’t even heard about it properly at that time.
Sony promises a second wave of pre-orders: Sony subsequently apologized to its customers for this chaos and promised new stock in the coming days and by the end of the year. And now we also know when it will arrive: In the morning of September 25th!
However, it seems that some from the first wave of pre-orders still have to worry, as they were convinced they had secured a PlayStation 5 for the release. But why?
Shipping retailers now cancel hundreds of PS5 pre-orders
Which retailers are affected? Among others, the company Conrad Electronic has already had to cancel a number of pre-orders. In a response to an inquiry by GamesWirtschaft, it was stated that the enormous demand and the associated technical problems have led to delivery difficulties with the PlayStation 5.
Unfortunate and primarily technical circumstances have led to more consoles being sold to customers in the pre-sale than the manufacturer Sony can provide. Due to a communication error between our ordering system and the online shop, orders could be accepted even though the device cannot be delivered by the manufacturer within the promised timeframe.
Cancellations and refunds were the result, which, according to Conrad Electronic, “were initiated immediately.”
However, other retailers also apparently had the same or similar issues. According to numerous reported cases, there have already been several hundred cancellations across Euronics, Expert, or Otto.
Am I affected? If you managed to pre-order from one of the affected retailers (or in general), you should check once more whether that holds true. First, check your emails.
However, you should also take a look at your account or your PayPal account. Because in numerous cases, refunds were initiated without informing customers via email.
Additionally, check your orders on the respective retailer’s page. There, the order status may have already changed for some.
