For the release of the PS5, MediaMarkt, Saturn, and other retailers failed to ship all pre-orders on time. Additionally, some packages that were sent got lost along the way. What is the current status and what should one do if they haven’t received a PS5 yet?
This is what happened: On November 19, the new PS5 was released. Even before the release day, MediaMarkt and other retailers sent emails that some orders might not arrive on time.
However, even now, 3 working days later, many are still waiting for delivery or collection slips for the local store. For some buyers, it is also frustrating that they ordered as guests and therefore have no way to check their order history. They rely on email notifications from the retailers.
Although the retailers apologize for the delay, they do not provide a general date by which the shipping should have occurred. Instead, there are shipping confirmations sent directly to the buyers when it happens.
Retailers apologize but do not specify a date
What did MediaMarkt and others say? In an identical statement on Facebook, MediaMarkt and Saturn last addressed buyers on November 20:
Unfortunately, we couldn’t provide every customer directly with a console at the PS5 launch. Regardless of whether by delivery or for self-collection, we are doing our best to ensure that everyone receives their console as quickly as possible. The demand is very high and we are in close contact with the manufacturer to execute all pre-orders as soon as possible. We want the console for all hobby gamers, for all pro gamers, for all of you.
They indirectly place the blame on Sony, who is not delivering consoles to retailers quickly enough. However, the statement does not clarify when exactly the PS5 will be going out to customers.
Anyone currently trying to find out more about their order status with Saturn or MediaMarkt will first hear a recorded message. It says that one should be patient. Orders can also be checked at the local store. However, even there, people are usually met with waiting.
At least many buyers at MediaMarkt and Saturn did not experience the same shock as with Otto. The large online retailer had to cancel numerous pre-orders:
Can I cancel the order? Theoretically, you can still cancel your orders. You will also get back any possible deposits. However, since there is nowhere else to buy a PS5, it is probably not worth it.
Complaints to consumer protection: On Twitter, many users have mentioned the consumer protection agency NRW in their tweets. They confirmed that they are accepting complaints about the current situation regarding the shipping of the PS5. You can fill out a form on their website.
New shipping confirmations: Many disappointed buyers are expressing their feelings on Twitter under the hashtag #wobleibtmeineps5. However, there are also positive messages from users who received a shipping confirmation or even a console delivered on Saturday or today, November 23.
As it stands, there are significant delays, but at least no halt in shipping.
However, there are also users who report that they received a shipping confirmation or even a delivery confirmation, but their console never arrived.
No delivery despite shipping confirmation – What to do?
No PS5 despite delivery confirmation: If a PS5 is said to have arrived according to the delivery confirmation, but you have not received any goods, you should complain. It might have gotten lost during shipping.
The editorial team of Gameswirtschaft recommends in this case to contact the retailer and the relevant shipping service directly.
Will I still get a PS5? Following the chaos surrounding the pre-orders, there is now increased discussion about the shipping of the consoles. However, many interested buyers still haven’t even been able to pre-order a PS5.
