After the PS5 event, some sharp-eyed fans discovered a mysterious slot in new images of the PlayStation 5 that has not been seen before. However, no one really knows what lies behind the opening. Now, speculation is running rampant.
Here’s a lot of new information: On September 16, Sony held a PS5 event, where numerous long-awaited details were finally revealed – including information about games, the final price and release date of the PS5.
There were also some new images of the PlayStation 5, in which some attentive fans apparently discovered something new.

This is officially known: Officially, Sony has not yet provided an explanation regarding the potential slot. Additionally, nothing concrete can be derived from the previously known data about connections and functions so far.

These are the most common theories: However, several theories have now emerged in the discussions that could provide insights or a possible explanation:
- The currently most widely accepted theory assumes that this opening is a security feature – namely, the Kensington Security Lock (K-Slot). This can be used to secure the console (or other devices) to furniture or other surfaces with a metal cable, in order to prevent potential theft.
- Another theory suggests that it could be a possible connection for PSVR2, a new “Virtual Reality” headset. This would also align with Sony’s statements to support VR with the new console generation.
- A further theory posits that it could simply be a Sony-specific diagnostic connection which will later be covered by a warranty seal once the console hits the market.
