A modder has patched the cult ARPG Bloodborne to run at 60 FPS on the PS4 Pro. And this is well received by many. Now he has announced that he will release a corresponding hack for the PlayStation 5, should Sony not deliver it themselves.
What is Bloodborne? Bloodborne is an action role-playing game for the PlayStation 4 that enjoys absolute cult status among many players. It is brutally difficult and is considered a spiritual successor to the games Demon’s Souls and Dark Souls – it is thus a so-called Soulslike.
What is the “problem” with Bloodborne? Bloodborne is capped at a frame rate of 30 FPS on the PS4. And although stronger hardware became available over time with the PS4 Pro, the game has remained limited to 30 FPS. Even though some fans still wish for a higher frame rate for the title, officially nothing has changed.
Modder aims to enable Bloodborne at 60 FPS on the PS5 – it already works on the PS4 Pro
What is the Bloodborne hack for the PS5 about? The passionate modder Lance McDonald found that this was not enough, and he managed to run Bloodborne at 60 FPS fluidly and stably on the PS4 Pro through some modifications and after initial difficulties.
This has shown what is already possible with the hardware of the PlayStation 4 Pro with this game. On the PS5, this should therefore be no problem at all.
Now he hopes that Sony will patch Bloodborne to 60 FPS as part of the PS5 backwards compatibility. If Sony does not deliver here, he intends to publicly release a corresponding patch that anyone can download. However, he wants to give Sony the chance to be the first to provide players with this possibility.
In a comment under his PS4 Pro video about the 60 FPS patch, McDonald says among other things:
However, whether it will be possible this way or whether it is rather intended as a kind of creative incentive for Sony remains to be seen. After all, the PS5 is still not available or only for selected individuals. Officially, the PlayStation 5 will be released in Germany on November 19, 2020 and already on October 12 in the USA, Canada, Japan, and some other countries.
This is how the patch is received: McDonald himself says that Bloodborne offers a completely different experience at 60 FPS. And many fans apparently agree with him. His video about the 60 FPS patch on the PS4 Pro is being celebrated massively. In just 3 days, it has already gained over 100,000 views and more than 6,000 upvotes.
In the comments, the modder receives a lot of praise for his work, and it becomes clear that quite a number of players would be happy about Bloodborne with 60 FPS – whether through an official upgrade or through an unofficial patch.
