Attentive users have discovered some new information regarding the PlayStation 5 in the source code of the official PS Store website. This includes Cross-Gen Party Chat, backward compatibility, a Boost Mode, and PS5 Game Sharing. We summarize the most important points for you.
Where does the information come from? Recently, some users shared their findings on Reddit and ResetEra, which they discovered in the source code of the official PS Store website regarding various error messages.
Note that this information has not yet been officially confirmed. Even though the details come directly from the source code of an official Sony website, you should take this with the appropriate amount of caution.
What the data discovery reveals about the PS5
PS5 backward compatibility: It has been made clear that not all PS4 games will run on the PS5 at launch. Additionally, not all features will be supported for some PS4 games on the PS5. Furthermore, to play some later-released PS4 titles, you will first need to update the PlayStation 5 system software. Some error messages were discovered in the code that confirm this.
Here are the extracted messages from the code:
- “Playing PS4 games on PS5, some functionalities available on PS4 may not be available. See www.playstation.com/ps5-backwards-compatibility for more details.” (The link does not currently work)
- “This PS4 game isn’t supported with your PS5’s current system software. We’re continuing to make more PS4 games playable on PS5. Update your PS5, and then try playing the game”
- “This PS4 game isn’t supported with your PS5’s current system software. We’re continuing to make more PS4 games playable on PS5. Update your PS5, and then try playing the game.”
Furthermore, the message “PS5 boost mode enabled” was also found. The Boost feature has been known for a while and is expected to allow older PS4 titles to run on the PS5 with better performance if there is no appropriate next-gen upgrade from the developer.

Forced controller features: It appears that developers will be able to enforce vibrations and some effects like haptic feedback with the adaptive triggers of the DualSense Controller. Therefore, you will not always be able to turn them off. Corresponding entries were found for this as well.

Cross-Gen Party Chat: There will apparently be an option to have the party chat cross-gen, between the PS4, PS5, and the PlayStation App. However, it is still unclear whether this applies to the entire system or only in certain games. However, a system-wide feature is suspected. Additionally, according to entries, the party chat could accommodate up to 100 players.
Other small details:
- You will be able to start something with the designation “Takedown” on the PS5
- There will be a wishlist for games on the PS5
- You will be able to change party names and pictures
- The PlayStation Store will show which games are already available with PS Plus, PS Now, and in the PS Plus Collection
