Many are waiting for the PS5 and Xbox Series X release. A developer now explains that Xbox and PS5 games could have completely new features for one reason.
Where did the information come from? In an interview, wccftech.com spoke with Stuart Tilley and his colleague Graeme Ankers. The conversation covered among other things the possible future of games on PS5 and Xbox Series X.
Who is speaking? Tilley is a Game Developer and co-founder of Firesprite. The studio developed the exclusive horror PlayStation VR title “The Persistence” (via GamePro). Firesprite worked closely with Sony because “The Persistence” was also the studio’s first title for PlayStation VR.
PS5 and Xbox Series X: Completely new features possible
What exactly does he say? Tilley explained in the interview that especially load times were to blame for having to discard many cool ideas during development:
It’s just super exciting for us to raise our ambitions. Sometimes you had to scrap a feature because, for example, it required very long loading times. Now, in the future, that might not be a problem. This will definitely allow us to make better games, I believe that’s absolutely right.

That’s why new features are possible: Tilley mentioned that these new sound possibilities are quite cool and represent an improvement, but much more important for players and developers is the SSD.
The main reason for the new features is the very fast SSD that is installed in the PS5, for example. So Epic chief Sweeney raves about the new SSD of the PS5. Furthermore, according to Sony’s own statement, the PS5 is supposed to be 100 times faster than the PS4.
Thanks to the high speed, functions could now find their way into games that had to be discarded before.
As developer William Armstrong, who also worked on BioShock 2 and Firewatch, once explained, games are becoming larger due to many ideas and functions:
Things like initializing AI behavior, setting up dynamic physics, registering every loot item in memory and inventory, etc. As the scope of the game gets larger, so does the scope of the setup.

What does that mean? There is no more room for other features, unless you want to accept higher loading times. For example, cool movements or abilities would also need to be loaded, and there is then no more space for that.
