Sony has announced an attachment for DualShock 4 controllers for PlayStation 4 in a new blog post. With this, you can install new buttons on the back. Particularly, shooter players are excited about the attachment.
What is this attachment? You will be able to purchase two new buttons for the PS4 controllers starting January 23, which can be easily attached to the back.
The special thing about it is that the back buttons are fully programmable. You can decide for yourself which of the 16 functions (all other available buttons) they will be assigned to.
The attachment also includes:
- An OLED screen that displays the current mapping.
- A profile system that allows you to save three configurations and switch to them with the press of a button on the display.
- A jack port for your headphones.
How much will the attachment cost? The back buttons will be available in America and Canada for $29.99. So it is very likely that they will cost around 30 Euros here.
Especially shooter players are excited about the attachment
What are the new buttons good for? The fully programmable buttons give you the ability to place buttons that you otherwise find hard to reach while playing comfortably on the back of the controller.
This is particularly relevant in games where you want to aim well and perform actions at the same time. Shooter players can keep their right thumb on the stick while jumping, crouching, or reloading the weapon. A significant advantage that only very expensive pro controllers offered until now.
Many users on reddit agree:
- GodzXPro: “For someone who plays competitive CoD and doesn’t want to spend $200 on a Scuf controller, this is definitely a plus.”
- jda404: “Cool, I’m looking forward to it. I see the benefits in multiplayer games, but I was never willing to spend $140 on a Scuf.”
- Undercutandratbeard: “Much better than releasing a new controller for $150.”
Will the PS5 controller get the new attachment? There is speculation on reddit whether this attachment could be a sort of test for the new DualShock 5 controller.
It is assumed that the controller of the PlayStation 5 will have these functions by default, thus allowing a type of transition between generations.
Perhaps the DualShock 4 controller will also be compatible with the PS5, and with the attachment, you won’t have any disadvantage compared to the new generation, which is said to be launched in time for the Christmas season 2020.
