The PlayStation Store in China is currently unavailable. Allegedly, Sony is working on security improvements for the PS Store because it was reportedly possible to bypass the shop’s restrictions in the country through backdoors.
Why is the PS Store in China no longer reachable? Since yesterday, the PS Store in China has been offline. Even at the time of this news, the page of the PS Store in China only shows the message that the page was not found.
Daniel Ahmad, an analyst at Niko Partners, explains that Sony has temporarily suspended the operation of the store to implement security updates.
He goes on to tell a curious story: Allegedly, an Xbox fanboy reported to the authorities in China, after which they had the PS Store taken offline.
A Curious Story
What does the alleged Xbox fanboy claim? Over Weibo, the largest Chinese microblogging service, this person is said to have pointed out security vulnerabilities.
There are supposed to be ways in the Chinese PS Store to bypass restrictions and also download games that are actually not allowed to be sold in China.
Blocking Apparently Easily Bypassed – with $5 Crack
What restrictions are these? In China, all games must be screened first and can only be offered for sale once they meet certain requirements and obtain a license. This includes that there must be no depiction of blood and corpses must not be visible.
These restrictions were officially introduced, among other reasons, to curb gaming addiction and because more and more children are experiencing eye problems. This is allegedly linked to excessive gaming consumption.
What is the truth of the story? According to the news agency Reuters, there are offers through which crackers can lift the restrictions of the Chinese PS Store for a payment of $5.
It is therefore conceivable that such backdoors exist, through which users of the Chinese PS Store can also download games that are actually not allowed. The PS Store has now been taken offline for this reason while Sony closes these backdoors with a security update.
The news agency Reuters does not state that the Weibo user who reported the vulnerabilities was an Xbox fanboy. This statement comes from Daniel Ahmad.
All these backgrounds are officially unconfirmed. Sony has not yet commented on this situation. It is only stated that the update is intended to increase security measures.
The fact is: The PS Store in China is currently unreachable, and Sony is working on a security update. When this will be completed and the PS Store can go online again is currently still uncertain.
The new console PlayStation 5 will also utilize the PS Store. You can read about the information we have gathered about Sony’s console in the article “PlayStation 5 – Everything we know about Sony’s upcoming PS5”.
