The professionals are currently dissatisfied with Fortnite: Battle Royale – and this is happening just as the World Championship for 30 million US dollars kicks off. One of the best players in the world believes that many will take a break after the WM and its prize money.
This is the problem: Some changes in recent days and weeks are making it difficult for professional players. Added to this is the timing of the developers Epic with the patches, which is often criticized.
Major changes come just before tournaments or important games. Professionals must get used to the new content in a very short time. These changes have faced criticism and misunderstanding for months:
- The Boom Box came shortly before a $100,000 tournament and ruined everything for professionals
- The Infinity Sword ruined a $1,000,000 tournament for professionals
Now the Fortnite World Championship is approaching with a prize pool of $30 million. Fortnite stays true to itself and changes the game just beforehand.
“It’s only because of the ridiculously high money!”
This is what the Pro says: Poach from Team Liquid is a professional Fortnite player and a solid figure in the Fortnite scene, consistently securing a good place and prize money at tournaments.
On Twitter, he writes that Epic seems to give the impression of not caring about community feedback. They have been complaining for months about the same drastic errors that remain unaddressed.
“I don’t know anyone who is currently playing the game competitively at a high level and is actually enjoying it. Everyone is only playing because of the ridiculously high prize money. I think a large part of the pro scene will leave after the World Championship.”
Poach himself would also belong to those players who will spend less time with Fortnite after the WM.
How much money are we talking about? Epic reportedly made a profit of 3 billion US dollars with Fortnite in 2018. They are now generously spending that:
- This weekend, the first week of qualification for the WM starts – there is a 1 million US dollar prize pool
- A total of 30 million US dollars will be distributed at the WM
- For the entire e-sports season 2019, there are 100 million US dollars in prize money available, which comes solely from Epic
In addition, streamers have had the opportunity to benefit greatly from Fortnite in the past.
What are the current problems in Fortnite?
Changes regarding kills: A few weeks ago, Epic introduced a feature that rewarded players with hit points and shield points for eliminating an opponent.
This favored aggressive play since players regained full health after a kill and could gather resources. The game became even more aggressive and faster. Epic backtracked and removed the feature. Players are annoyed and want it back.
Due to the change, there are currently two different versions of Fortnite: the normal Fortnite and the competitive one with the “Aggro sliders”, where players find the queues too long.

The Kugler: This is a vehicle equipped with a grabber. It is practically a closed hamster wheel with hit points that a player can control across the map.
This fun vehicle affects the meta of Fortnite. After a nerf, it has 200 hit points. This must first be shot out before the driver can be taken down.
This means that a Kugler provides a certain shooting safety, as most opponents would rather shoot a “free target” than first shoot through the 200 HP shield of a vehicle.

This is what players want
Fewer features, more fixes: Players feel that Fortnite is focusing more on bringing new features to the game rather than fixing existing bugs.
This is also what Pro Ninja says. He warns that Fortnite may be overextending itself. “They release updates and just add more glitches,” says the streamer.
Many are now wishing that Fortnite first removes the most important bugs and glitches from the game before thinking about new features. Especially before a World Championship, this is particularly important.
So that the pros have time to practice, Fortnite has just launched a $500,000 tournament.
