The price of Sony’s PlayStation 5 (PS5) may have been leaked. A Canadian retailer is apparently already taking pre-orders and is asking unexpectedly little money.
What many are waiting for regarding the PS5: Whether regarding hardware specs, the SSD, or other features of the PS5 – many details about Sony’s next-gen console are already known. However, fans are still waiting in vain for information about the price or a specific release date for the PlayStation 5 . That could now change.

The price of the PS5 may have been leaked: According to the website Notebookcheck, the Canadian retailer Play N Trade Vancouver Island is already taking pre-orders for the PS5 – and at an unexpectedly low price.
For this, 559.99 Canadian dollars are being asked. This amounts to about 360€ or 396 US dollars. However, if the price is around 400 US dollars in the USA, then in Europe, the price would likely be around 400€.
Is the price too good to be true? It depends. There could be several explanations for why the price is so low. After all, many fans and experts have seen the possible price at around 500€.
- It could just be a placeholder. However, since pre-orders are already possible, this is unlikely. Placeholders usually list prices that are higher than the final price. This is likely the case with a Danish retailer. While they do not offer pre-orders, they have the PS5 listed for 6,989 Kroner, which is about 940€.
- It could be that the Canadian retailer still does not know the exact price of the PS5, and in the end, a follow-up payment for the corresponding remaining amount, i.e. the difference to the final price, may be due.
- It could be the actual price, and Sony is trying to compete against the direct competition from Microsoft and their Xbox Series X by undercutting them on price. The price of this new console is estimated to be around 500-550 €. Sony also pursued such a strategy at the launch of the PS4 and Xbox One, so it is definitely a possibility.
- Even for a console architecture, the prices look extremely low considering the hardware we know: In a direct comparison we compared PC hardware. However, it is known that Sony and Microsoft are willing to sell their consoles at a loss to retain customers and sell games, making the consoles profitable.
For now, take it with caution: Either way – an official statement from Sony regarding the price of the PS5 is still pending. Therefore, this and similar offers should be treated with caution – even though it is becoming increasingly exciting around the new console generation.
