We now know the specs of both the PS5 and the Xbox Series X, but there is still no sign of the prices. What would be your pain threshold for both consoles?
There are still no official prices for the PS5 and Xbox Series X, which is one of the hottest topics surrounding the upcoming next-gen consoles.
The two manufacturers have nevertheless made some comments regarding the prices of their consoles. And it seems that they have similar strategies.
This is what Microsoft says about the price: Xbox chief Phil Spencer has kept his cards close to the chest so far, but he appears very confident. In a podcast with IGN, he stated:
I feel good about the price we can launch with. I feel comfortable with the price and performance we are achieving for the Series X. I’m extremely confident about the overall package.
Spencer also mentioned that Microsoft “has its eyes wide open” and is watching how Sony will approach the price of the PS5. Spencer’s “winning plan” is to remain agile on price and to exceed fan expectations.
This is what Sony says about the price: At Sony, Chief Financial Officer Hiroki Totoki has said a few words about the price of the PS5. According to him, there are many different factors to consider when setting a console’s price.
On one hand, there are production and labor costs that need to be included, and on the other, there is competition. Totoki said that since Sony does not act alone in the market, it is currently still difficult to discuss the price.
