In Pokémon GO, the “Year of the Snake” is currently being celebrated, along with a corresponding limited-time research task. This provides rare Zygarde cells.
What kind of research is this? The limited-time research “Year of the Snake” started with the Lunar New Year event in Pokémon GO.
Coinciding with this, the research was released, which runs until February 2nd. Currently, there are four tasks that offer exciting rewards: Zygarde cells.
All tasks for the “Year of the Snake” in Pokémon GO
| Walk 1 km following routes | 1 Zygarde cell |
| Walk 2 km following routes | 1 Zygarde cell |
| Catch 10 Pokémon while following routes | 1 Zygarde cell |
| Follow a route | 1 Zygarde cell |
| Upon completion | 6 Zygarde cells, 5,000 XP, 2,000 stardust |
How to solve this? Theoretically, just one route is enough to complete all tasks at once. For this, go to your “Nearby” menu at the bottom right of the game, select the routes, and see which options you have nearby. Ideally, it would be a route with 2+ kilometers to complete everything in a single go. You can read more about routes in Pokémon GO here.
Things get harder if you don’t have routes nearby. You might try to create a route yourself. However, since this has to be approved, it is very unlikely that this will work within the task’s timeframe.
What are Zygarde cells in Pokémon GO?
The Zygarde cells were introduced with the route feature in the game. Through a special research task, you can obtain the Pokémon Zygarde by using routes. However, to transform it into its stronger forms, you need a lot of Zygarde cells.
The strongest Zygarde form, the Perfect form, is useful in Pokémon GO’s battle league, but to obtain it, you need a total of 250 cells. These are usually obtained randomly upon completing routes, they are considered very rare. This makes it a lengthy process to acquire a complete Zygarde.
Now, with this task, at least there is a small accumulation of cells, which may motivate players to take a closer look at the feature. By the way, you need 50 cells for Zygarde’s 50% form.
For many players, the path to a complete Zygarde is very long. How about you? Have you ever engaged with the route feature? Do you use it, have you perhaps set up your own routes? And how are your experiences with the cells? Share with us in the comments. And what’s coming next in Pokémon GO, you can read here: All events in February 2025 for Pokémon GO.
