In Pokémon GO the contents of the weekly event box have changed, but many trainers are not at all excited about it. We at MeinMMO have looked into which items you can now get from the box and what the community finds troubling.
Which boxes are we talking about? Each week you receive a special event box in the in-game shop of Pokémon GO. You can retrieve this once a week and it is always available from Monday.
The special box costs a one-time fee of one PokéCoin and previously provided you with a precious remote raid pass every week. However, Niantic now wants you to raid more in person again and has therefore changed the contents of the box.
These are the contents of the new box
Just in time for the start of the week, the new event box is available in the game. Instead of the usual remote raid pass, you now find three super incubators in there. These will hatch your eggs in 2/3 of the time it takes with a normal incubator.
And regarding the value of the individual items, the new box brings a marked improvement. While the remote raid pass can be purchased in the in-game shop for 100 PokéCoins, you would have to pay a total of 600 Coins for the three super incubators. But what do the trainers say about the new items? We’ll show you.
What do trainers think of the new box?
Even though the new box appears to be stocked with higher quality items at first glance, most trainers are not particularly happy with the contents.
Why are the trainers not convinced by the new box?
Remote Raid Passes: The primary reason for this is the changes made by Niantic regarding the remote raid passes. These were introduced during the COVID-19 pandemic to allow trainers to participate in raids from home due to quarantine or lockdowns.
Even after the restrictions were lifted, this item continued to be actively used by numerous trainers. Now, however, Niantic wants to push trainers to go out more and has raised the prices for the remote raid passes. With the additional removal from the weekly box, trainers are left with no choice but to invest money in the special passes.
Contents of the eggs: But the super incubators also generate little enthusiasm among players. Even though you can hatch your eggs twice as fast, trainers have been criticizing the various eggs for some time. Especially the 12 km eggs are heavily criticized.
This is primarily due to the chances of obtaining certain Pokémon. Most often, rather uninteresting monsters hatch from these eggs, while others like Ganovil are harder to find. Therefore, many find the incubators less interesting now.
Here are the reactions from the reddit community
The criticism of the changes to the remote raid passes and the incubators, which many trainers find uninteresting, is also reflected in the reactions from the reddit community. Some users cannot believe that these boxes will permanently maintain such high value and suspect that Niantic has only released them to appease players temporarily.
In the comments, you can read the following (via reddit.com):
- Isthiscreativeenough: “Well, surely this is worth 600 coins and a remote raid pass is worth 100 coins. I wonder how many times Niantic will take the bitter pill. Maybe twice”
- theunworthyviking: “This won’t last long”
- gnpfrslo: “Just because the nominal value is higher doesn’t mean it has more real value.
I have no problem walking 2-10 km in a day or so. I struggle to get to a level 5 or mega raid with enough people to give me an actual chance at winning. Therefore, I have never spent a single coin on purchasing incubators, but I have spent coins to buy 3 remote raid passes many times and even bought single passes a few times for emergencies. Plus, come on, do you really say you generally prefer the egg pool over the raid pool?”
- hhhydrah_: “Yes, super incubators are cool, but some people prefer the chance to catch a legendary than hatching a useless egg.”
- buschbar: “I suspect they are trying to distribute incubators to create an incentive for players to activate adventure sync so that they can gather more location data.”
- redlurk47: “This is to make us forget the remote raid passes and slowly degrade the weekly box until it’s only balls and revives left.”
- Alice_Sliva: “The question is, how long will it take for them to start giving us inferior products?”
That there will likely not be just the three super incubators in the long run has already been announced by the developers in their blog post. It was announced that from May 23, 2022, there would be a “changing selection of items” in the weekly box (via pokemongolive.com). However, it remains to be seen how good these items will be in the future.
Survey shows – This is how you mainly raid
That the adjustments to the remote raid passes are a big topic is also reflected in the results of our survey. On May 20, we wanted to know from you how you mainly raid. As of May 23, 2022, at 10:35 am, a total of 3,142 readers participated in our survey and voted as follows:
- 93% (2,909 votes) for “By remote raid”
- 7% (233 votes) for “In regular raid groups”
This is how you feel about the change: As the results clearly show, the majority of you mainly participate in remote raids. In the comments on MeinMMO you also let us know what you think about the changes:
- Ingo: “Just a rip-off!!! Niantic has realized this brings in real money. The players are being scammed more and more.”
- 14.7.2016: “Everything seems to be against the player now. Only disadvantages, never anything positive.
I will only use the remote raid pass for any dumb new creatures, but only once for the DEX. Where are the EX raids??? Also, all our raid groups have dissolved, so all this is nonsense.”
- angelika: “It would be nice if all this wasn’t contradictory: Go out to meet people….you don’t need to meet anyone, just do PvP. Move around….use lure modules and stay in the same spot for 90 minutes. Find friends worldwide… but trading is not available, raiding together is made expensive for you. In the end, it’s probably only about money.”
What do you think about the super incubators in the weekly event box? Do you wish to have the remote raid pass back in the weekly box? Or do you prefer to play in person anyway? Let us know in the comments.
In a few days, the Pokémon GO Fest 2022 will start. We will show you everything you need to know about the ticket, the shinies, and the content.
