In Pokémon GO trainers cover a lot of routes to collect rare items: the Zygarde cells. Now, a trainer has hit a limit, which surprised some players.
What is special about the item? The Zygarde cells are currently only obtainable if you use the route feature in Pokémon GO. Here you walk along routes submitted by other players and are rewarded for it – if you’re lucky, also with rare Zygarde cells.
You need them to switch the forms of the monster Zygarde from the special research “From A to Zygarde” – and not just a few. You need a total of 50 cells for the 50% form, and another 200 for the optimal form.
Since Zygarde cells are only rarely available, it can take quite a while. Some trainers emphasize that to this day they only own a fraction of the required cells. However, players are starting to appear who have now completed the Zygarde evolution.
A trainer in the subreddit “TheSilphRoad” has now spoken up, as he has the required cells. However, he noticed something: There seems to be a limit to how many cells one can possess in total.
Trainer reports: At 250 cells, it stops for now
The user “bashford427” reported in his post that apparently you can only hold a maximum of 250 cells in the item bag. He originally planned to collect 300 so that he could later afford to have multiple forms at the same time when more Zygarde specimens can be caught.
But when he was at 248 and collected 3 more cells, the counter stopped at 250. Even the next day, additional found cells were no longer collected.
The limit for simultaneous cells apparently lies at 250. That’s why the trainer advised: “Don’t make the same mistake I did and waste a day on cells by going over.” Only when he spent 50 cells to evolve to a 50% form could he collect more cells again.
This is how trainers react: The user “bashford247” himself is not a fan of the limit. In the discussion about whether more Zygarde will be available at some point, he writes: “I’m sure at some point [another Zygarde will come], which is why I want to collect the cells right now while I’m used to it. But not allowing more than 250 to be stored is dumb.”
And other trainers also agree with a wink – especially since the cells are extremely rare:
- “I won’t make the mistake when I get to 250, which should be the case around February 2026, given the rate at which I get them,” writes a user (via reddit).
- “Damn, I’ve only got 40, but that’s good to know” (via reddit).
- “For me, it looks like December 2030, so you’re far ahead of some of us,” writes another (via reddit).
- “You’re faster than I am, I’ve only got one cell so far,” says another (via reddit).
Basically, the Zygarde feature seems to be designed for the long term, as obtaining the cells in that quantity is a challenging task. Additionally, trainers currently assume that you can only get a maximum of 3 per day, which are not guaranteed with every route.
