Pokémon GO kicks off today, on May 15th, with the big Hoenn event from the Nostalgia Challenge. It brings new Shinies, quests, and the next special research.
When does the Hoenn event start? It begins on May 15th at 1:00 PM. The event will run for one week and ends on May 22nd at 1:00 PM.
This is the 3rd part of the Nostalgia Challenge, a series of events that will accompany us throughout May.
All info about the Hoenn event in Pokémon GO
These bonuses are available: Naturally, the Hoenn event revolves around Generation 3. There are also additional bonuses:
- A new special research will reward you with Groudon at the end, featuring the exclusive move Fire Punch
- Pokémon such as Eneco, Sengo, and Vipitis will appear in the wild
- In 7km eggs and raids, Pokémon from Gen 3 will appear, such as Loturzel, Bummelz, Nincada, Eneco, Zobiris, Flunkifer, Knacklion, Barschwa, and Perlu
- Pikachu with a Rayquaza hat appears in the wild
- Shiny Eneco makes its first appearance in the game
- Special quests related to Generation 3 are available
- The hatching and buddy candy distance will be halved
What can be said about the special research: This research will likely be available around 10:00 PM on May 14th. This was already the case with the Johto event research.
You will encounter some Pokémon from Generation 3 until the end of the research and also receive useful items.
In the end, you will receive Groudon. It can also be Shiny and knows the move Fire Punch, making it especially interesting in PvP.
What spawns can you expect? There are several exciting Shinies that we can expect with the Hoenn event. Eneco will definitely be more frequently encountered, as it is the new Shiny.
It remains to be seen if we encounter Vipitis in Germany. The regional Pokémon usually does not appear here, but the event news only states that Sengo and Vipitis will appear. A spawn here in Germany is therefore quite conceivable.

Is the bonus worth it? The halved distance for buddy candies is quite interesting. You can choose some Pokémon from which you still need candies. We have compiled a list of the best buddy Pokémon.
The egg distance is likely to be quartered, as the distance is already halved anyway. So if you’re hoping for some good Pokémon from the eggs, you should especially be able to hatch many eggs during this event.
