In Pokémon GO you can encounter plenty of Crypto Pokémon again with the Rocket takeover. However, you better not purify them. Why this makes sense and what you can do with the monsters instead, we have summarized here for you on MeinMMO.
Which Pokémon is it about? In Pokémon GO, the Rocket takeover event is currently taking place, which offers you plenty of encounters with the members of Team GO Rocket. Once you have defeated them, a Crypto Pokémon from their team awaits you after the battle, which you can catch.
So Giovanni is once again using one of the strongest Crypto Pokémon that you definitely should not miss.
Even though it may seem obvious to purify these Crypto Pokémon after catching them, you should better refrain from doing so. We explain why.
That’s why you shouldn’t purify your Crypto Pokémon
How to recognize Crypto Pokémon? Crypto Pokémon are visually distinct by their red eyes and purple smoke compared to their counterparts. With a bit of luck, you can also catch individual specimens in their respective Shiny form.
Here you can see which new Shiny Cryptos you can find with Arlo, Sierra, and Cliff.

Why are Crypto Pokémon worthwhile? Anyone who has a strong Crypto Pokémon should definitely not purify it. This type of monster is actually a bit stronger compared to all other Pokémon. They benefit from a 20% higher attack bonus and are thus a perfect choice in battle.
In contrast, however, they do not hold out as long in battle because their defense is correspondingly lower. However, this plays a rather subordinate role, especially for the use in raids, which is why Crypto Pokémon are particularly popular there and belong to the best attackers in the game.
How to find the bosses of Team GO Rocket and secure a legendary Crypto for yourself, you’ll find out in the following video:
What is the problem with Crypto Pokémon? Besides the slightly lower defense value, the bigger disadvantage is that Crypto Pokémon rely on the charged attack Frustration. This is a Normal-type attack that is relatively weak. However, it usually cannot be changed.
That’s why many players simply purify these monsters and then give them a better attack. But there is another way to make these Pokémon useful for you without having to purify them.
What alternative is there to purifying Crypto Pokémon?
Unlearning Frustration: In order not to have to purify your Crypto Pokémon, you have several opportunities throughout the year for a few days to unlearn the charged attack Frustration. One of these opportunities occurs during the Rocket takeover event, which runs until November 17, 2022, at 8:00 PM local time.
During this time, you can use charged TMs to make your Crypto Pokémon forget their previous Frustration attack. This way, they become especially useful in battle for you, and you can benefit from their increased attack.
How does it work? First, you need to select your desired monster. Then you can choose a charged TM from the items, which will change the attack of the Crypto Pokémon. Like all other monsters, the choice of attacks is random.
So you should have enough charged TMs ready when you are looking for a specific attack. Alternatively, you can also use a Premium Charged TM, where you can choose the attack specifically.
Which monsters are particularly worthwhile for unlearning Frustration, we have summarized for you in the following article.
What do you need to consider? Once you have changed the attack of the Pokémon, you should ideally not purify this monster in the future. Otherwise, it will unlearn this attack again and get the Normal-type move “Return”. This is essentially the counterpart to Frustration.
Now you can change the attacks at any time without problems, but that will cost you a lot of charged TMs. For this reason, you should think carefully in advance whether you really want to purify the Crypto.
