There is a new feature for Pokémon GO: Through Wayfarer, you can now see an accurate map of all PokéStops and Gyms worldwide. And that’s not all.
What is Wayfarer? Wayfarer is the program through which players submit new waypoints to Niantic that can be implemented as Points of Interest in their games. In Pokémon GO, these points become PokéStops, Gyms or Power Sources. However, there is a review process in place – learn more about submitting PokéStops here.
With Wayfarer, you can simply log in with the account you also use for Pokémon GO. And when you do that, you now also get access to a new map that allows you to see Stops and Gyms all around the world.
This is quite exciting if you want to take a closer look at what’s going on with Stops in your area. You can see how absolute Pokémon GO hotspots like Tokyo are set up. Or you can check out what your next travel destination has to offer in Pokémon GO.
You can find the map on the Wayfarer page. And viewing Stops is not all you can do there.
What features does the Wayfarer map offer for Pokémon GO?
In an announcement, a member of the Wayfarer team describes what options you have with the new map.
There, you can first search the map. For example, you can directly enter locations or just scroll around.
You can filter for PokéStops, Gyms, and Power Sources. (However, “Gym” is currently referred to as “Fitness Studio”, apparently a faulty translation of “Gym”.) You can also see which waypoints come from Niantic and which were created by the community.
You can view each individual waypoint in more detail. You will then see the title, the photo gallery of the spot, as well as a description. You can even get directions to the waypoint. Additionally, you can report waypoints that do not meet Wayfarer criteria.
A problem: When testing the map, we found that many points are only displayed when you zoom in fairly close to the map. Keep this in mind when you try it out.
What do you think of the new map? Is this a feature that you can use for your game? What functions would you like to see? Let us know in the comments! Otherwise, it goes directly on in Pokémon GO: The big event in the lead-up to the Kalos Tour has been announced. Here you can read everything about the “Way to Kalos” in Pokémon GO.
