In Pokémon GO there has recently been an important change to the Eevee evolutions. Niantic says that the change was not intended, but will remain in the game for now. Fortunately for players.
What is this change? For a few days now, you can evolve Eevee into Espeon or Umbreon without having to walk 10 kilometers first. This requirement has actually been standard for both evolutions.
Players found this change very timely, as the Community Day with Eevee is just around the corner, and it would save a lot of walking. Now Niantic explains that this is a bug. However, they plan to keep it in the game for now.
Change for Umbreon and Espeon only a bug – But a good one
This is what Niantic says: On Twitter, Niantic’s support wrote on August 12 what the recent Eevee change is about. Trainers noticed the important change for Eevee for the Community Day, but were not sure if it was intended.
The developers write: “Trainers, a bug is responsible for the lack of walking requirement when you evolve Eevee into Umbreon or Espeon while it is your buddy. We will not fix this bug before August 16 at 7 PM. So after the upcoming Community Day event” (via Twitter.com).
This is what players say about it: When the bug became known, trainers were happy. Because for the Community Day in August, many want to catch and evolve Eevee. Not having to walk 10 kilometers every time to evolve one of these Pokémon is a huge help.
The trainers react to the new announcement from the game’s support with similar enthusiasm.
- “This is really very helpful for the Community Day. Bug or not, thank you for allowing this for the Community Day, Niantic” (licensetodraw via Twitter.com)
- “What a good decision, but it would have been better if you had implemented it as a Community Day bonus since it’s just a bug. But it’s still great, well done. I hope you continue to make good decisions from September onward” (JubelChef via Twitter.com)
- Other players believe that Niantic cannot easily fix the change and that the bug will therefore remain in the game longer (via reddit.com)
What does this mean for you? If you want to evolve your Eevee into Umbreon or Espeon now and during the Community Day, you just need to select Eevee as your buddy and then evolve it either at night or during the day.
This greatly simplifies your evolutions and temporarily removes the walking requirement for Umbreon and Espeon from the game. If you want to secure one of these evolutions, you should definitely do so before Niantic fixes the “bug”.
In the coming weeks, many more exciting dates for trainers will be starting. All events in August 2021 for Pokémon GO can be found here.
