In Pokémon GO the big Kanto event for the nostalgia challenge is just around the corner. We give you an overview of all the information.
When does the Kanto event start? It starts at noon on May 1 at 1:00 PM local time. You can benefit from the bonuses until May 8, for a whole week.
The event takes place as part of the nostalgia challenge and is the first part of this series that will take place throughout May.
Everything about the Kanto event in Pokémon GO
What bonuses are there? The Kanto event is of course all about Pokémon from the 1st generation. Here are some bonuses to enhance the experience:
- Pokémon like Bluzuk or Chaneira appear in the wild
- Kanto Pokémon appear in raids and in 7 km eggs, such as Bluzuk, Machollo, Onix, Schlurp, Tangela, Sichlor, Pinsir, Lapras and Evoli
- Pikachu with Charizard hat appear in the wild
- Shiny Bluzuk appears for the first time in Pokémon GO
- Double XP on catches, raids, and eggs
This special research is coming: All trainers who haven’t had it yet can tackle the special research “Nostalgia Challenge: Kanto” starting from the event’s kickoff. This quest series was previously accessible to some trainers due to a bug.

At the end of the research, a Mewtwo with Psystrike awaits you, which could even be a Shiny with some luck.
What can be said about the spawns? With Chaneira and Bluzuk, two very interesting spawns have already been announced. Bluzuk is likely to be interesting as a new Shiny for everyone, and Chaneira is considered to be a rarer Pokémon outside of events, so you have a good chance of finding a Shiny here.
However, there are also a plethora of other Shinys from the 1st generation that you might encounter during this event. In our Shiny list, you can see which Shinys from Gen 1 are currently available.
Is the XP bonus worth it? If you want to level up, you should focus especially on raids. You can earn 40,000 XP through a level 5 raid with an activated Lucky Egg. You can now comfortably participate in raids from home.
With the current raid boss Darkrai, it’s even more worth it, as this mysterious Pokémon is really strong and easy to defeat. So invest some remote raid passes and secure the double XP or even quadruple XP with a Lucky Egg.
