On December 17 and 18, 2022, the Community Day in Pokémon GO will feature the monsters from 2022 and 2021. Which ones are worth it?
Update, December 18, 2022: The first day of the Community Day has passed, and the second is now approaching. There are still event monsters to catch today.
This is the Community Day in December: The two-day Community Day brings back all the monsters from the Community Days of 2022 and 2021 into the game – partly in the wild, partly in raids and eggs.
You can find everything about the bonuses in the guide to the Community Day in December 2022.
This weekend offers a wide range of monsters, including those with special attacks. But which ones should you secure?
If you are missing a monster or a shiny variant, you should definitely catch it. However, which Pokémon are really useful for raids, gyms, or the battle league?
We will provide you with a brief overview of the strongest Pokémon for the C-Day in December 2022 using the database from Gamepress. Important: Since only the last evolutions receive the special attacks, we will focus on these final stages.
The best monsters on Community Day in December
Trikephalo

Trikephalo is the best dark attacker in the game, and it’s not been long since it was extremely rare. If you don’t have one, you should secure one – if you only have one, you should secure more.
Attack: Trikephalo learns Whirlwind, its ideal attack as a dark attacker.
Knakrack

Knakrack is an absolute top attacker of the ground type. If you don’t have it yet, you should definitely try to get one or more. It’s also a good monster in the Master League. Moreover, its Mega evolution is still pending, which will make it even more powerful.
Attack: Knakrack learns Earth Power, which is a nice upgrade. Earthquake is also strong.
Sumpex

It evolves from Hydropi and has its benefits in both the battle league and raids. However, it’s even better in the shadow variant and especially with its Mega evolution. Mega-Sumpex is currently the best water attacker in the game.
Mega Energy for Sumpex was available at the Hoenn Raid Day, and for the Hoenn Tour, there should be another opportunity for the Mega form. A strong Sumpex (or shadow Sumpex) is definitely worth it.
Attack: It learns Hydro Cannon, its best option.
Good monsters
Bisaflor

Bisaflor was once one of the best grass attackers, but it has since been surpassed by other monsters as a raid attacker. Nevertheless, it is still useful, especially for new players. Also, it is a good option in the battle league (super league).
However, one must not overlook that it has a strong Mega evolution and there is also a good shadow version for which one can collect candy.
Attack: It learns Petal Blizzard, which is the best option for Bisaflor as a charge attack.
Machomei

Still a good option for raids and gyms, even though other fighting attackers have since surpassed it. But it is a fast, strong attacker that can definitely help you – especially the shadow variant. It is also quite useful in the battle league.
Attack: The dark attack Counter is not ideal, Machomei is better off with fighting attacks.
Dragoran

Like Machomei and Bisaflor, Dragoran is an old Pokémon that has been partially surpassed. However, it is still one of the top dragon attackers in raids and gyms and is also a strong option in the hyper and master league in PvP. Additionally, you can collect candy for its shadow version.
Attack: Draco Meteor is strong, Outrage would be an even stronger alternative.
Walraisa

Is not particularly interesting for raids, but a real weapon in the super and hyper league. This is mainly due to the Community Day version of the monster, as it receives the following…
Attacks: Powder Snow and Ice Spear make Walraisa a very good monster in the battle league. Therefore, it is especially worthwhile to develop Walraisa during the Community Day – as otherwise, it won’t get these moves directly.
Brockoloss

Brockoloss is a good option if you’re looking for rock attackers. Although it is usually surpassed by other monsters, its Community Day move elevates its utility level in raids. However, take note: It requires a lot of candies to evolve if you don’t have anyone to trade with.
Attack: Meteor Beam is the current best charge attack for Brockoloss, so it’s worth it.
Skelabra

Skelabra can function as both a strong fire and ghost attacker. This makes it very useful in raids, although it is not very useful in the battle league.
Attack: It receives the move Poltergeist in the event, but it’s not very worthwhile. As a fire attacker, Skelabra needs Heat Wave, and as a ghost attacker, Shadow Ball. So, develop it after the event or use a TM.
Staraptor

Staraptor can cause problems for some tier 3 raid bosses and stands out as a decent flying attacker. However, the bird becomes particularly interesting in its shadow version – if you have a good variant, gathering candy could be worthwhile.
However, Staraptor isn’t a particularly rare monster – accordingly, it might be worth focusing on other monsters instead.
Attack: Staraptor receives the fast move “Wing Attack”, which is decent for an attacker. A similar alternative is Air Slash, so it is not reliant on the Community Day move.
Roserade

Roserade barely falls into this category since it has been surpassed by other Pokémon as an attacker. It was once one of the best grass options against raids and is still strong, but not useful in the league.
Attacks: Roserade learns at Com-Day the charge attack Meteorologist of the fire type and the fast attack Bullet Seed. This is not ideal; Razor Leaf and Vine Whip are better.
Altaria
Altaria is a strong option in the super league, and the attack Moonblast enhances it further. Looking ahead to the Mega evolution, it could be worthwhile to collect some strong specimens during the Community Day in December 2022. Thanks to our reader Michael on Facebook for pointing out this strength.
More for collectors, when the Pokédex entry or shiny is missing
- Fiaro just barely lands in this area because it basically has no value in raids and can’t convince in either the super league or master league. However, it looks better in the hyper league – where it is a viable candidate.
- Barrikadax looks very cool but offers no advantage in raids. However, with “Blocker” it is still an option in the battle league.
- Serpiroyal learns Flower Statue, but other grass attackers are stronger.
- Flambirex learns Blaze Cannon, but is also overshadowed by other fire attackers.
- Admurai completes the starter trio – and despite Hydro Cannon is surpassed by other monsters.
- Kosturso is usable neither in raids nor in the battle league.
- Ursaluna is not suitable for raids, and also difficult in the battle league – except for a niche in the master league.
- Zwirrfinst learns a good move with Shadow Ball but is largely ineffective as an attacker.
- Alola-Geowaz with Hammer Arm is not a bad attacker but is clearly surpassed by other monsters. Might be interesting for new players.
- Alola-Sandamer with Dark Claw is not good for raids but is an option for super and hyper league.
- Sandamer with Night Slash is not really usable in raids or leagues.
- The Eevee evolutions can fill certain niches but are usually overshadowed by other monsters. Particularly Feelinara with Psychic Shock can impress in the hyper league.
- Luxtra is a solid electric attacker but is overshadowed by some other monsters.
- Papungha is not a particularly exciting attacker – neither with the move Acrobatics nor otherwise. However, it has a niche in the super league.
