The event “new paths” in Pokémon GO begins with the debut of Zygarde. Additionally, the route feature starts. However, the shiny bonus of the event is not well received by trainers.
What kind of event is this? You can expect a short event that is only active from Friday to Monday. The contents of the 7 km eggs will change, there are two bonuses and altered wild spawns. A special research is also part of it.
We will show you here in the overview everything you need to know about the new event.
Event New Paths: Start, Bonuses, Shiny
When does it start? The event starts today, Friday, at 10:00 AM local time. It will be active until Monday, July 24, at 8:00 PM.
Catching Zygarde: With the start of the event, Zygarde will be activated in Pokémon GO. To catch it, you need to play the new special research “From A to Zygarde”. In it, you will encounter the new Pokémon.
- The special research “From A to Zygarde” with all tasks and rewards
- How to change Zygarde’s form and find cells
Event bonuses: You only need 2/3 of the distance to earn buddy candies while exploring routes with your buddy.
In addition, you have an increased chance to encounter shiny Mangunior.
For completing field research, you will also receive encounters with Mangunior.
Wilderness: In the wilderness, you will encounter
- Fukano*
- Ponita*
- Dodu*
- Yorkleff*
- Elezeba*
- and Mangunior* (whose shiny chance is also increased in the wilderness)
Eggs: From the 7 km eggs you receive during the event, Wuffels*, Raffel, and Legios will hatch.
Pokémon marked with a star (*) can be encountered as shiny if you’re lucky.
Trainers question the purpose of the Pokémon boosts
What are players saying? The contents of the event are being actively discussed in the community (via Reddit.com). There are questions about why Mangunior is so prominently featured at this event and why it is being shiny boosted.
- “Yorkleff and Mangunior are already 50% of my spawns. How can they be boosted even more?” asks Maleficent-Reach-744
- “The Pokémon with shiny boosts should be Snorlax and Mogelbaum because they were the ones that blocked the routes in Gen 1 and Gen 2 games. Mangunior seems like a strange choice,” says DTpk23
- “Why are half of the spawns Pokémon that we have seen so much of recently? As much as I love Ponita, do we really need to see it again?” asks RK0019K
Routes are being activated
What is this? The new routes feature was announced a few weeks ago and is now being gradually activated.
For this, you select a PokéStop or Gym as a starting point, select “Record”, and then submit it at the end of your route for review. In the nearby overview, you can find routes from other trainers that you can follow.
On these routes, you can also find Zygarde cells. You need to collect these if you want to change the form of the Pokémon.
For participating in the routes, you will receive additional XP and earn buddy candies faster.
