On the weekend, the top raids with Pokémon GO featured Regidrago. However, trainers reported issues – and even a replacement date for players facing the greatest difficulties apparently did not go smoothly.
What was the event like? The top raids have rarely appeared in Pokémon GO and represent raids that are particularly difficult to master. On one hand, strong bosses are waiting there, and on the other hand, they can only be completed on-site.
One cannot hope for support through remote raids, nor can one join from a distance.
Last Saturday, March 11, 2023, was the current top raid event. At 11:00 AM, 2:00 PM, and 5:00 PM, trainers should be able to challenge the new Pokémon Regidrago.
But in addition to the scheduled challenges, some trainers also faced other hurdles.
Players in New Zealand receive a replacement event but report issues again
What was going on in New Zealand? The first reports of issues with the raid event came from New Zealand. This time zone usually starts new Pokémon GO events first, and trainers often share early content but also problems before they start here.
Users reported at the start of their first Regidrago raids that they could not join any raids (via reddit). A fix followed, but for some players, the first time slot at 11:00 AM was lost due to the problems.
Via Twitter, Niantic Support then addressed the issue. They claimed to have solved the problem and would conduct another event day for players in New Zealand the following day, March 12, 2023.
But trainers reported issues again (via reddit) when trying to join the raids. Critical voices also raised concerns on Twitter that issues still existed.
Further issues: In the subreddit for Pokémon GO “TheSilphRoad,” trainers reported further difficulties with the top raids over the weekend.
In the USA, players apparently experienced login problems that made it impossible to log into the game on time for the top raid at 11:00 AM (via reddit). This particularly frustrated some players since they had even managed to gather enough people to raid, but then could not start, risking missing out.
Additional reports included:
- At the start of the event, Regidrago’s catch circle was apparently faulty (via reddit).
- Some trainers explained that after a successful Regidrago raid, they did not receive any special research that should have provided candies for the remaining Regi monsters. This had also been announced (via reddit).
- Other trainers reported that there were simply no top raids appearing in their city or nearby (via reddit). However, this may not be a fault, since top raids do not occur in all arenas, but only in selected ones. Nevertheless, this is frustrating for players whose nearest arenas are further away.
It remains to be seen whether the team behind Pokémon GO will address these issues again. It will definitely be interesting to observe how the situation unfolds in the coming month, as the next top raid day is approaching.
As part of the new season “Rising Heroes”, Pokémon GO announced another top raid boss alongside Regidrago: Regieleki. This one is expected to appear in the top raids on April 9, 2023.

The next event in Pokémon GO is already scheduled for the upcoming weekend. There, you can expect the Community Day in March featuring Flegmon and Galar-Flegmon.
