What raids are we talking about? In Pokémon GO, you can not only catch monsters in the wild but also prove your skills in so-called raids. These are defended by various Pokémon at different difficulty levels. To secure the corresponding raid boss, you will have to fight against it.
New excitement is expected in these battles, as weeks ago the Pokéminers, a group of dataminers, found hints about new raids that sparked much speculation. Now, Niantic has finally announced a new form of raids, known as top raids.

What to expect in the new top raids
How to recognize the new raids? As can be seen from the image of the corresponding Twitter post from Pokémon GO, the new raid eggs will be red. In addition, they are supposed to have a hatch time of 24 hours. So you will see a day in advance when the raid boss appears in the arena and can organize yourself in your raid groups accordingly.
What can you expect in the raids? The raids are said to be a bit more difficult than the previous raids available in the game. Therefore, you should prepare to need strong support from your friends to defeat the raid boss. In return, you can secure an exclusive Pokémon this way.
What do you need to consider? Unlike other raids, the raid boss can only be defeated in the arena for 30 minutes. After that, everything is over. The participation conditions are also different.
Just like in the level 4 raids you know from community day, you can only participate in top raids on-site. It is therefore not possible to invite friends to remote raids or participate in other regions with your remote raid passes.
When does the first top raid take place? The first top raids are set to start tomorrow. Niantic announces these for October 16, 2022, at the following times:
- 11:00 local time
- 14:00 local time
- 17:00 local time
When exactly it will be time for you depends on when the corresponding raid egg appears for you today, as the hatch time is a full 24 hours. During the current Season of Light, additional top raids are also expected to follow. The exact dates for this are not yet known.

Which raid boss appears in the new raids? In the first top raids, you can encounter the mysterious Pokémon Hoopa (Unbound). This Pokémon comes from the 6th generation of games and belongs to the Psychic and Dark types.
Until now, you could only obtain it through special research. Now you have the chance to secure additional specimens. You can recognize the monster by its large light body covered with pink hair. It also has six arms and golden rings.
Is Hoopa (Unbound) worth it? Yes, Hoopa can benefit from an enormous attack value in its unbound form, which is even a bit higher than Mewtwo’s. Its stamina and defense are solid as well. Therefore, it is one of the best Psychic attackers in Pokémon GO and is well-suited for raids.

Can you catch Shiny Hoopa? No, Shiny Hoopa is not yet available in Pokémon GO and cannot be caught in the new top raids.
