What kind of event is this? Every Tuesday, a Spotlight Hour takes place in Pokémon GO. For 60 minutes, a specific Pokémon is in focus, and its spawns are significantly increased. There is also a bonus that can affect XP, Stardust, or Candy.
Today during the Spotlight Hour, you will encounter the Pokémon Samurzel and can utilize a bonus that grants you double experience points.
Spotlight Hour on January 17th – Start, Bonuses, Shiny
When does it start? The Spotlight Hour begins at the usual time at 6:00 PM local time. It will be active for one hour and will end at 7:00 PM.
What bonuses are there? During the event, you will encounter Samurzel almost everywhere in the wild. The Pokémon is from the third generation and belongs to the Grass type. If you want to achieve even more spawns, you can also use incense during the event.
As an additional bonus, you will receive double the amount of XP for catching Pokémon.

Can you catch Shiny Samurzel? Yes, the shiny version of Samurzel is available in Pokémon GO. The Pokémon had its Community Day in 2020, and you could already catch Shinys there. Keep in mind that the Shiny chances are not increased during a Spotlight Hour.
Is today’s Spotlight Hour worth it? Samurzel and its evolution Blanas are not particularly strong attackers. However, the final evolution, Tengulist, is very useful in various situations. In PvE raids, it is a cost-effective alternative to the best attackers. Especially new players can easily obtain a good attacker here.
In PvP, it can play almost at the top in the Hyper League and Super League. As an attacker with the types Grass and Dark, you have a good candidate here.
