In Pokémon GO the 5th season of the PvP league has been announced. The highlight: There is again a chance to earn legendary Pokémon as a reward.
When does Season 5 start? The season starts on November 9th at 10:00 PM German time. You can also claim your rewards for Season 4 then. If you have reached Rank 7, there is a Top Fast TM as a reward.
In Season 5 there will be more cups focusing on different themes. There will also be more pandemic adjustments so you don’t have to go outside.
Legendary Pokémon and 3 Theme Cups
What happens with Legendaries: In Season 5 you will again have the opportunity to receive legendary Pokémon as a reward. However, this only works if you are at least Rank 7.
As a reward, you will get the legendary Pokémon, which is currently also found in the Level 5 Raids. So you save Raid Passes if you are active in the PvP league.
What doesn’t change in the PvP league: You still don’t have to walk any kilometers to earn battles in the league. Since the beginning of the pandemic this is no longer necessary and will continue to be the case.
The rewards at the end of the season remain the same. There will also still be the Wrestler Pikachu if you reach Rank 10 in the league.
What changes in Season 5: In addition to the legendary Pokémon as rewards, there are other changes to the PvP league:
- To reach Rank 2 you must have fought a minimum number of battles.
- To reach Ranks 3 to 10 you must now have a minimum number of victories.
- If you have reached at least Rank 7, you will receive a Top Charged TM as a reward at the end.
Additionally, there are new moves being introduced while others have been modified:
- Incinerate: The Fire-type Fast Move learned by Pokémon Gallade, Typhlosion, Ho-Oh, Skelabra, and Flampivian is brand new to the game
- Poison Sting: The Poison-type Fast Move now generates more energy
- Nitro Charge: This Fire-type move can now be learned by Pokémon Gallade, Entei, Skelabra, and Flambirex
These theme cups are available: Throughout Season 5 there will be 3 theme cups. These are special versions of the PvP league with specific rules.
First, there is the “Little Cup” until November 16th. Only Pokémon that can still evolve and have not yet evolved are allowed. The CP limit here is 500. You can fight with Pokémon that are otherwise not used.
Then there is the Kanto Cup. This runs until November 23 and only allows Pokémon from the first generation. The CP limit here is 1500.
Finally, there is the Catch Cup. This runs until November 30 and sets very specific rules. You can only use Pokémon you caught starting with Season 5. The monsters must have a maximum of 1500 CP. This is exciting because it forces you to form a completely new team.
But there’s also a lot more to do in November! For example, there are new field research tasks in the game that are worth doing:
