Today, on March 3rd, the Raid Hour with Thundurus starts in Pokémon GO. MeinMMO shows you the counters and explains who should participate in the Raid Hour.
What kind of event is this? The Legendary Raid Hour occurs once a week in Pokémon GO. Every Wednesday evening, level 5 bosses appear in most gyms that you can battle. This lasts for one hour. During this time, you have a good chance of finding other trainers to help you fight the boss.
Today, on Wednesday, March 3rd, the Pokémon Thundurus is the focus of the event. The eggs will hatch in just 10 minutes, and the bosses will be available for battle in the gyms for 60 minutes.
Thundurus Counters – What You Need to Know
What you need to know: Thundurus is a dual-type Pokémon: Electric and Flying. This means that Ice attackers can hit it hard and deal significant damage to the boss. If you don’t have enough Ice attackers, then Water Pokémon are the next best choice.
The following Pokémon are excellent counters:
- Shadow Mamoswine with Powder Snow and Avalanche
- Mewtwo with Psycho Cut and Ice Beam
- Weavile with Ice Shard and Avalanche
- Roselia with Weather Ball (Ice) and Avalanche
- Glaceon with Weather Ball (Ice) and Avalanche
- Galarian Darumaka with Ice Fang and Avalanche
More strong counters and information about Thundurus can be found in the guide on MeinMMO.

How many people do you need? If you have strong Ice attackers and they are equipped with the ideal moves, you can defeat Thundurus with just two players. However, you should have reached at least trainer level 35.
If you prefer to play it safe, invite other trainers via remote raid. The faster you defeat Thundurus, the more battles you’ll be able to participate in during the Raid Hour.
Is Thundurus worth it?
For shiny hunters: If you are looking for a shiny, you might get lucky with Thundurus. The shiny form is available in the game. You can see what it looks like in the following tweet:
Then you should raid: If you still lack strong Ground-type attackers in your collection, you can fill that gap with Thundurus. However, keep in mind that Thundurus is not the strongest representative of this Pokémon type.
In our ranking of the best attackers in Pokémon GO, the Incarnate Form of Thundurus ranks behind Grounds. Make sure your Thundurus knows Mud Shot and Earth Power to get the most out of it.
However, if you already have a few strong Ground attackers like Groudon, Garchomp, or Excadrill, then Thundurus is less interesting for you when it comes to raid attackers.
However, should Pokémon GO release the Therian Form of Thundurus, that would change significantly. Because it is really powerful. You will find out about it on MeinMMO when it is released.
