The special research “Proto-Grollen” in Pokémon GO is available to all trainers. By completing the tasks, you will receive berries, items, experience points, stardust, and a ticket for the big Hoenn Tour 2023.
What kind of special research is this? The “Proto-Grollen” research is available to you starting today (February 17) at 10:00 AM. All trainers can participate. If you complete it, you will receive a ticket that gives you access to the special bonuses of the Hoenn Tour 2023.
With the ticket, you have the choice between Ruby and Sapphire. Here we provide an overview of all known tasks and contents of the new research.
Proto-Grollen 1/2

Stage Reward: If you have completed all three tasks and claimed the respective rewards, you will additionally receive 2023 XP and 2023 stardust.
Proto-Grollen 2/2

Stage Reward: If you have completed all three tasks and claimed the respective rewards, you will additionally receive 2023 XP, 2023 stardust, and a ticket for the bonuses of the Hoenn Tour.
Choose Ruby or Sapphire?
If you have the ticket, you can decide between Ruby or Sapphire. Not all bonuses of these two sides have yet been revealed by Niantic. However, there is some information that might help you make your team choice.
The bonuses apply to the worldwide Hoenn Tour:
- The chosen team affects which Pokémon appear for you in the wild
- During the Hoenn Tour, there will be hourly field research challenges. Whether Team Sapphire or Ruby wins will determine whether more Proto-Kyogre (Team Sapphire) or Proto-Groudon (Team Ruby) appear in raids
- The chance of selected monsters appearing in the wild is also increased
