In Pokémon GO, there is currently an event where you have to catch many Pokémon. At the same time, more and more players are noticing that they have fewer balls available. The fans seem to have come to a unanimous and angry conclusion: Niantic is to blame.
Why is the shortage so noticeable right now? Currently, in Pokémon GO the limited-time study: Master Ball within the “Adventures Abound” event is running. For this, you need to catch 1,000 Pokémon from 100 different species, which requires quite a few Pokéballs.
However, some players on Reddit are increasingly noticing that they have significantly fewer Pokéballs than they did before the event. In some cases, even drastically fewer. The website Pokémon GO Hub reports a drop of up to 40% fewer balls from gifts from friends (via Pokémon GO Hub).
This comes at an inconvenient time during this event and is upsetting many fans. They are now angry at Niantic because this change was not communicated and does not appear in any patch notes.
I wish it were illegal to change such things without patch notes
The community is angry with the developers: Fans on Reddit became aware of the changes on September 6. A thread there questions whether the gifts received from friends were nerfed at the start of the event (via Reddit).
Some players there notice that they are receiving significantly fewer Pokéballs, which makes the event increasingly difficult. The thread creator even feels pressured to buy new Pokéballs for real money or Poké coins.
Many other fans report similar circumstances in the 112 comments and urge the developers at Niantic for better communication. Some commenters even assume that Niantic is doing this intentionally so that fans will buy more balls from the shop.
Has the rate been further nerfed? On September 13, another Reddit thread speaks out. The creator wonders if the rate has been further nerfed. They opened 40 gifts and received only 31 balls from them (via Reddit).
Their post receives 600 upvotes and 173 comments. One of them claims that Niantic has indeed further nerfed the drop rate of the balls. They receive 336 upvotes for this, indicating much support.
Another player defends Niantic, saying: “They had to adjust the drop rate since we can open 40 gifts during the event [normally it’s 20]. But somehow they managed to ensure that you get less from 40 than you did before.”
Other fans report that they have almost no balls left and urge the developers to make improvements. Pokémon GO has not officially commented on this or improved the drop rate.
