The most coveted monsters in Pokémon GO are Shinys. To fill the Pokédex with them, some players want to catch as many of these shimmering specimens as possible. However, a trainer reports an incident where he did not get the Pokémon he actually wanted to catch. We looked into what happened and will show you.
What kind of incident is it? With a bit of luck, trainers in Pokémon GO have the chance to encounter a shimmering Pokémon. A trainer named DaRk_ViVi reported such an encounter on reddit (via reddit.com). However, this encounter did not go as he expected.
- He received a Drowzee in his daily spawn, which appeared to him in its shiny form after opening.
- However, after successfully catching it, the surprise happened: The once shiny Drowzee transformed into a shiny Ditto.
A daily spawn is a Pokémon that appears when the game is opened for the first time and is different for each trainer. It is thus like a personal Pokémon. Unlike other monsters, it does not run away after a short time but remains in that spot all day until it is caught.
What kind of Pokémon is Ditto? Ditto is a monster that can change its appearance and thus hides behind other Pokémon in the game. With the change of seasons, trainers in Pokémon GO also have the opportunity to encounter a shiny Ditto in the wild for the first time.
Thus, Ditto can now also hide behind monsters that already exist in their shiny form in the game and thus become a shiny itself. However, according to Niantic’s information, this should only happen if the Pokémon to be caught is not a shiny specimen (via twitter.com).
If you encounter a shiny Drowzee like trainer DaRk_ViVi, then it normally should not transform into a Ditto. But how could this happen? Trainers on reddit have also thought about this and are trying to find reasons for this incident.
This is the community’s speculation
After DaRk_ViVi raised awareness about his incident on the reddit platform, other trainers also reported similar experiences. For instance, effrightscorp reported an encounter with a shiny Teddiursa, which subsequently turned into a shiny Ditto (via reddit.com). He also had the Pokémon from the daily spawn.
For this reason, many reddit users agree that it has to be related to daily spawns. Some suspect that Niantic forgot to adjust this list to the shiny conditions for Ditto:
- BKoldcuts (via reddit.com): “Maybe the daily spawn is a special case that they did not consider when checking whether the appearance can be shiny? That is the only possibility that comes to my mind.”
- seaprincesshnb (via reddit.com): “Yes, I bet they did not apply the logic to the daily spawn. This pool is different, and it seems like a list that they would ‘forget’ to update with certain rules.”
- snek_nz (via reddit.com): “I mean, I personally would not be mad. But that is absolutely not what Niantic indicated would happen. I thought that was the reason why Ditto was switched to non-shiny Pokémon at all.”
Whether Pokémon GO actually forgot to adjust the daily spawns in connection with Ditto is not known. As soon as Niantic comments on how these encounters will be handled in the future, you will find out about it here on MeinMMO.
