In Pokémon GO the New Year’s event starts in a few days. Niantic has now announced what the event brings. We will show you here when the event starts, what bonuses are available, and the contents of the event.
What kind of event is this? When the Christmas event Winter Holidays Part 2 ends on December 31, Pokémon GO will continue directly with the New Year’s event to celebrate the turn of the year. There will be Pokémon in costumes and a festive fireworks display. Additionally, there will be egg bonuses and raids featuring Reshiram and Mega-Sableye.
New Year’s Event 2022 – All info about the start, Pokémon, and bonuses
When does the event take place? The event starts on Saturday, December 31 at 10:00 PM and runs until January 4, 2023, at 8:00 PM local time.
Pokémon Debuts: During the New Year’s event, you will have the chance to catch a Pikachu wearing a party hat, which may even be available as Shiny.
In addition, you will be able to evolve a Hoothoot in a New Year’s outfit into a Noctowl in a New Year’s outfit.
Wild Pokémon: During the event, you will encounter the following Pokémon in the wild. The Pokémon that we mark with a star (*) can be found as Shiny.
- Pikachu with party hat*
- Hoothoot with New Year’s outfit*
- Wurmple with party hat*
Bonuses:
- Eggs placed in an incubator during the event will hatch twice as fast.
- Quartered hatch distance for the first three eggs that are hatched during the event using the Pokémon egg widget in Pokémon GO.

Exclusive Attack: If you catch Reshiram in raid battles, it learns the exclusive attack “Cross Flame”. This deals 90 damage in trainer battles and 140 damage in gym and raid battles.
Eggs: The 7km eggs that you receive during the event can hatch the following Pokémon:
- Pichu with party hat*
- Cleffa*
- Swadloon*
- Togepi*
- Raveler*
- Wigglytuff*
- Elekid*
- Magby*
- Azurill*
- Snorunt*
Avatar Items: During and after the event, the avatar items “Pikachu party hat” and “Party popper pose” will be available in the shop
Field Research: There will be New Year’s field research tasks matching the event, for completing which you will receive Stardust.
Collector Challenge: In addition to the New Year’s field research tasks, there will also be a New Year’s collector challenge that will give Stardust when you complete it.
Additionally, just a few days after the New Year’s event ends, the Community Day in January will focus on the plant starter from Generation 6, Chespin.
