What kind of special research is this? In the game, it’s called “Celebrate 2019”. The research consists of just one stage, which is easy to complete.
In the end, you will receive some important items as gifts at the end of the year.
Niantic skipped difficult or time-consuming tasks here. You simply need to catch 19 Pokémon. This shows that the developers want to give you some XP and items just before the end of the year.
New special research grants you an Unova Stone
These tasks exist: In the only stage of the special research, you just need to catch 19 Pokémon three times. As a reward, you will receive 2019 XP each time.
As a conclusion, you will then receive 20 Ultra Balls, one Unova Stone, and 9 Rare Candies. The number 2019 is therefore central everywhere.
When will the special research be available? The research is regionally available at the start of the Community Days. At 9 AM local time, you will gain access to the research. However, it is not clear how long it will be available.
Why the special research is worth it for you: The tasks are quickly completed, and you can collect the rewards. Especially the Ultra Balls should be important for the Community Day. You will frequently encounter Pokémon that can be caught with such a ball.
The Unova Stone is also important. It is likely currently the rarest evolution item in the game. So if you had no luck with the item in the past event, you should not miss this gifted stone.
