On December 16, the Holiday Event starts in Pokémon GO, which has numerous bonuses for you. Niantic has now announced that some bonuses will be extended. We at MeinMMO have looked into which ones these are and in what periods you can use them.
What is it about? Due to the upcoming Christmas festival, there will be a Holiday Event in Pokémon GO starting tomorrow, December 16, 2021. This consists of two parts and also includes smaller mini-events, such as the December Community Day or the Winter Wonderland.
In addition to plenty of Pokémon that you can encounter during the individual highlights of the event, bonuses should not be missing on this occasion. These also differ depending on the event section. However, some are now set to last longer.
Which bonuses are valid longer?
As Niantic announced on the evening of December 14 via their Twitter account, you can benefit from two extended bonuses during the upcoming Holiday Event.
They write, “Trainers, in the spirit of the holidays, we have extended the trading bonuses for both our December Community Day and the Winter Wonderland event.”
What bonuses will there be for these events? The following two bonuses were planned for the Community Day in December and Winter Wonderland:
- 25% less Stardust cost for trading (Community Day December)
- increased trading distance to 40 km (Winter Wonderland event)
How long are these now valid? The bonuses are available to you in Germany and Austria during the following periods:
- Stardust bonus for trading: December 17, 2021, at 7:00 PM to December 20, 2021, at 7:00 PM
- Increased trading distance: December 24, 2021, at 7:00 PM to December 27, 2021, at 7:00 PM
What do trainers say about the extended bonuses?
In the community, trainers are pleased about this news. For example, umbongo44dd writes, “I am satisfied. I can no longer meet my friend as often and still have plenty of Dratini and Bagon to trade. Normally, we both travel about 10 km to meet, but we don’t have to do that anymore.” (via reddit.com).
However, some trainers think the timing is not well chosen and would prefer a general long-distance trading option (via reddit.com):
- phillypokego: “I don’t understand why they are so stingy with long-distance trades.
Even if Covid were to end tomorrow, the days of meeting in person to trade are long gone and will never return.”
- Jaus: “Probably the worst time of year for this event. I know I will be celebrating Christmas back in my hometown and don’t have any Pokémon Go friends nearby. I assume many people are in the same situation.”
- umbongo44dd: “This should be permanent. I see no reason why it shouldn’t be.”
Trainers have long wished for an increased or even suspended trading distance. This would also make lucky trades possible with friends who otherwise would probably never see each other because they live in different regions.
However, it is currently unknown whether Niantic will generally increase the trading distance in the future. If there is official information on this, you will of course learn about it here at MeinMMO.
