In Pokémon GO collecting XP is a fundamental part. To reach Level 50, you need to farm a significant amount of experience points. In our level guide, we show you how to get the XP.
This is what experience points bring: Experience points (XP) are the most crucial component in Pokémon GO for leveling up. To reach Level 40, you only need XP. For Levels 41 to 50, you will need to complete some additional tasks.
However, this guide focuses solely on gaining XP and gives you tips on how to farm experience points quickly and efficiently.
Ways to double your experience points: Use a Lucky Egg. You can buy it in the in-game shop or earn it through some research tasks in the game. It lasts for 30 minutes and doubles all XP you collect during that time.
4 ways to collect XP quickly
Collecting XP through friends: The easiest way to gain a lot of experience points is through friendship levels. With each friend, you can rank up, and for every rank, you receive a significant amount of XP. This is especially worthwhile at the last two ranks. There you get:
- Hyperfriend: 50,000 XP (100,000 XP with Lucky Egg)
- Best Friend: 100,000 XP (200,000 XP with Lucky Egg)
If you want to collect a lot of XP, you should ensure you have enough friends on your list. Try to have as many interactions with friends as possible. The easiest way is through sending and opening gifts. But PvP battles, (remote) raids, and trading Pokémon also increase your friendship level.
You can have a maximum of 200 friends. If you don’t have that many players in your community, or if you are already best friends with them, we recommend finding friends online. There are often dedicated trainers who love to open and send gifts. Check this out:
Find friends 2020 – Here you find codes
If you open at least the maximum number of gifts per day, you should quickly accumulate XP. We recommend that you gather friends and open the last gifts right before leveling up when you activate a Lucky Egg. A raid hour is a great time for this.
Collecting XP through raids: Another good method to collect XP is through raids. For each Level 5 raid, you get 10,000 XP. If you activate a Lucky Egg, you even get 20,000 XP. That is not insignificant, considering that legendary raids can be done quickly.
Raid hours are particularly worthwhile for XP. You can easily do 10 raids within an hour. If you complete them all with a Lucky Egg, you get a total of 200,000 XP. For just one hour of effort, that’s quite a lot.
Lower-level raids also provide a decent amount of XP, but the yield is not as great. A Level 3 raid gives 4,000 XP. Compared to a legendary raid or friendship XP, investing in a raid pass for experience points is not really worth it.
Collecting XP through catching Pokémon: Since the major “GO Beyond” update in December 2020, catching Pokémon has become very rewarding for gaining XP.
Experience points for catching Pokémon have been increased. Especially excellent throws have received a solid buff. So, if you catch the Pokémon with an excellent curveball throw on the first attempt, you get a whole 1,170 XP. At first glance, that seems low, but if you hit just 10 Pokémon per day like that, you earn almost 12,000 XP.
Generally, it holds true: Catching Pokémon provides you with a lot of XP! Catch as much as you can if you want to farm experience points. We recommend the catching trick. With it, you can catch monsters much faster and generate more XP.
Collecting XP through evolutions: Mass evolutions are still a good trick to gain a lot of experience points. Collect especially those Pokémon for which you have enough candy and evolve them. Caterpie, Pidgey, or Wurmple are good candidates.
Set aside half an hour and activate a Lucky Egg. In 30 minutes, you can achieve about 70 evolutions. Each evolution grants 1,000 XP and with a Lucky Egg even 2,000 XP. This way, you can earn a proud 140,000 XP in 30 minutes. Not too shabby, and you’ll get rid of your excess candies.
Are other actions still worthwhile? Feeding Pokémon in gyms, hatching eggs, or battling in gyms also provide XP. However, the amount of XP here is not significant enough to justify specifically farming these actions.
So, if you want to collect XP quickly, you don’t have to invest in all incubators for your eggs. Instead, catch Pokémon or open gifts. There is significantly more XP to be gained there.
Leveling from Level 41 – What’s next?
This is what you need to keep in mind from Level 41: Once you have reached Level 40, you can continue to level up since December 1, 2020. There are still 10 levels you can climb. However, you must do two things:
- Gather enough XP, just like for Levels 1-40
- Complete 4 tasks that vary depending on the level
For the XP, you can simply follow the steps outlined above. In total, you need 176 million XP for Level 50.
We have already provided an overview of all the tasks you need to complete by Level 50:
