Mega-Absol will be in Pokémon GO this weekend. Here’s how to properly utilize the raid day with the monster.
When is the event? The raid day with Mega-Absol takes place on Sunday, March 23, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
What kind of Pokémon is this? Absol is a Dark-type Pokémon that first appeared in the Ruby and Sapphire games. In the later sixth generation of games, it received a Mega form that you can now catch on the raid day in Pokémon GO.
Here’s how to get Mega-Absol:
- Defeat Mega-Absol in the Mega Raid.
- After the battle, you can catch the normal Absol.
- You will also receive Mega Energy. The faster the raid is completed, the more energy you get.
- If you have enough energy, you can use one of your caught Absols to perform the Mega Evolution.
Since you usually need multiple Mega Raids to unlock the necessary Mega Energy, you should take part in the Mega Raid Day if you don’t have a Mega-Absol yet. Because there are useful bonuses.
Tips for the Mega Raid Day with Mega-Absol
These bonuses apply: During the three-hour event period, you should note which bonuses are active.
- You can get up to 5 free passes from gyms that you spin. But: Only after the last one has been used.
- There’s an increased remote raid limit of 20 participations. This applies even from 1:00 AM until the next day at 4:00 AM.
- There’s an increased Shiny chance for Absol that you catch in Mega Raids.
- Additionally, Absol can learn the move “Whirlwind” during the event.
To complete as many raids as possible, you should move to the next gym after each raid. There you can pick up the next pass and challenge another Mega-Absol if one is available. The chance is quite high that most gyms will be occupied by Mega-Absol during the raid day.
How to defeat Mega-Absol? As a Dark-type Pokémon, Mega-Absol is very vulnerable to Fighting-type attacks. Bug and Fairy also pose a threat to it. It’s best to use Pokémon like Mega-Lucario, Terrakion, Mega-Rayquaza or other suitable counters.

How many trainers are needed? A successful battle against Mega-Absol is even possible alone. At least if you have good counters at a high level. With less ideal Pokémon, you should attack with additional trainers.
Limited research: A limited research is ongoing during the event. You will receive Stardust upon completing the tasks.
Ticket in the shop: The shop will offer an event ticket that costs 5 US dollars (in euros likely similar). This will grant you additional bonuses. Important: The bonuses mentioned above also apply without a ticket.
The ticket includes:
- Up to eight additional raid passes from gyms
- Increased chance of XL candies in raids
- 50% more XP when defeating raids
- Double Stardust in raids
However, these bonuses only apply during the event period. So think about whether you need these bonuses or if the event is sufficient without a ticket.
