Pokémon GO: How to make the most of the Community Day with Eevee

On the weekend of August 14 and 15, 2021, the Community Day with Eevee will take place in Pokémon GO. We at MeinMMO have looked at what special features and bonuses await you at this event.

What is a Community Day? Once a month, a special event takes place for trainers in Pokémon GO: the Community Day. This usually lasts one day and focuses on a specific Pokémon. This Pokémon spawns more frequently during the event, and the shiny rate is also increased during this time.

Additionally, trainers can look forward to numerous bonuses on this day. In August, the Pokémon Eevee will be the focus of the event. Unlike the previous Community Days, this time it will extend over two days.

Community Day in August 2021 – Start Time and Bonuses

In total, you have 12 hours to catch Eevee at this event. With the extended durations of incense and lures, it is also conceivable to play from home.

Additional Bonuses for the Community Day with Eevee

In addition to the bonuses you receive during the event period, there will be additional bonuses for this Community Day. These will be available to you from Friday, August 13, 2021, at 7:00 PM until Monday, August 16, 2021, at 7:00 PM. Here’s what you can look forward to during this time:

• various special moves when evolving Eevee
• hatched or caught Eevee will know the special move Last Resort
• you only need 7 hearts instead of 70 when evolving Sylveon
• limited research with Moss and Glacier module as a reward

These are the special moves: Eevee has a total of 8 evolutions that can learn the following special moves during the Community Day:

Changed KM Requirement When Evolving Espeon and Umbreon

As the Pokémon GO community has noted, there are currently no walking requirements for evolving Espeon and Umbreon. Normally, to evolve them, you need to select your Eevee as your buddy and walk 10 kilometers. After that, evolution into Espeon (during the day) or Umbreon (in the evening/night) is possible depending on the time of day.

With the removal of the walking requirement, you only need to take your Eevee as a buddy and can then evolve it into Espeon or Umbreon based on the time. According to Niantic, this is a bug in the game. However, they have announced that it will not be fixed before August 16, 2021, at 7:00 PM. This makes it easier for you to evolve during the Community Day.

What’s in the Ingame Store

As with previous Community Days, you can purchase additional items in the ingame store. These are available during the Eevee event:

• The special research “You Have a Choice” for about 1 Euro, focusing on Eevee.
• A Community Day Box with 50 Ultra Balls, 5 Incense, one Elite Fast TM, and one Elite Charged TM for 1,280 coins.

How to Make the Most of the Community Day in August

Make these preparations: Eevee is a normal-type Pokémon from the first generation. It can evolve into a total of eight different creatures through various means. All information on Eevee’s evolutions and name tricks can be found here. As with other Community Days, the evolutions will also learn a special move during this event.

So if you want all evolutions with the corresponding special move, you need enough candies and, of course, many strong Eevees for evolution. To avoid constantly evaluating the captured creatures during the event, you should make sure you have enough space in your Poké Bag.

Additionally, you will of course need Poké Balls for catching. If you want to play actively on both days, you should plan for at least 350 balls per event day so that you don’t have to get new ones directly at the Poké Stop.

These items are suitable for the Community Day: As you have a 4 times shorter hatch time for eggs during the event, it is advisable to have enough incubators available. Make sure to take this opportunity to hatch eggs with a long walking distance, like the 12 km eggs from Team GO Rocket.

Additionally, you should have enough incense ready so that you can catch as many strong and/or shiny Eevees as possible. Since the incense lasts for 3 hours, you need a total of 4. The same applies to lures. However, keep in mind that you need a Moss Module for the evolution of Leafeon and a Glacier Module for the evolution of Glaceon.

Is the Community Day Worth It?

Eevee is one of the Pokémon that spawn regularly in the game. It is thus more frequently obtainable. According to the overview from PvPoke, it has relatively poor stats in terms of attack, stamina, and defense, which means it does not play a role in the PvP league and raids (via pvpoke.com).

However, Eevee has numerous evolutions that can become really strong. In particular, Glaceon, Espeon, Leafeon, and Sylveon are among the best attackers in Pokémon GO. To catch as many strong specimens as possible, you should take advantage of the Community Day with Eevee and catch diligently.

Furthermore, you can encounter Eevee in its shiny form as well. Due to the increased spawn rate, your chances are quite good to catch one or the other. Typically, the probability of encountering a shiny specimen is 1 in 450. However, during past events, this was usually reduced to about 1 in 25.

You can recognize shiny Eevee, as seen in the picture, by its lighter color. You can then also evolve this Eevee, of course. So if you want to have a complete Pokédex, you should diligently keep an eye out for shiny Eevee. This way, shiny hunters will also get their money’s worth.

If you are not interested in Eevee at all, you can at least take advantage of the shorter hatching distance for eggs.
